Two Questions

1. I was wondering just how big a difference the size of a subwoofer makes, in terms of loudness. Lets use 10's and 12's for example. I know some 10's can take just as much power as some 12's. I've always heard that 10's are more punchier, while 12's are more boomier, if that makes any sense. Summed up, how big a difference are 10's and 12's in terms of loudness?

2. Finally, I was wondering what would happen if I built a sealed box for two 10's bigger than the manufacturer specs. Would they be louder, or just less efficient? I have 10" JL Audio W3's if that helps at all.

Woofer size is all in the perspective and type of music you are going to be listening to. I personally will not go above a 12" because I feel 15's to be a bit too muddy and less controlled a sound, but I prefer a 12 over a 10 because i do like the lower response. Depending on how you set the enclosure up you can make the sub sound more or less "muddy". If you make the box too large for your subs you are allowing the speaker to flow more free than it should and can either blow the speaker, get more distortion, or just cause that annoying muddy sound because the speaker does not have the "control" it should with too much air space.
