Two questions. Modeling clay. And why do my coaxials have more bass than my comps?

I read somewhere about using clay when installing components. I got new door panels and am installing them correctly, no more speakers out the outside of the door. Looked tacky. Well... I didnt makean MDF ring, I used the plastic ring that came with my components to mount my speakers to my door but theres a little gap. Would using this clay help? Or since theres holes all throught the door panel does it even matter?

Second, I have some cheap (but not bad) 6.5" Eclipse coaxials in my rear that I replaced some 6x9's with. They have bass. My 6.5" Eclipse component driver has none. Ive messed with the LPF. Doesnt help. Can anyone tell me why a set of 75.00 coaxials have more bass than a 170.00 set of components?

yeah make wooden baffles w/ some modelling clay. The whole point of it is to make the surroudning area stronger, so that the energy is sent to you instead of into the metal door.

Installation.

Lack of any decoupling to the panel, and lots of holes in it are killing your midbass response.

Get a baffle of 3/4" MDF on there, two or three layers of deadening on the panels, and Plexi sealing up all the holes, and you'll notice an improvement //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

 
The coaxials may have a high-pass crossover point set lower than your components, however the "bass" you are seeking from 6.5" components should be mid-bass. Your installation can make or break the quality and fill of the mid-bass frequencies.

 
I have one layer of deadening on the inner and outer door. I still need to seal the door. I recently made mdf speaker rings and put modeling clay behind and around it. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff99/dirthogg/mdfringclay.jpg

Installing the mdf ring and using clay was a big improvement. Every aspect was improved from doing this and I definitely recommend it. Before I was using the plastic mounting bracket that came with my 01 Chrysler sebring. It created a lot of noise and was not even close to being as solid.

 
More than likely it is install and location that gives the coaxs more MB response. If you drop the comp driver in the rear I am willing to bet MD response improves. Seal up the vast amount of holes in the door, deaden it, and use some MDF rings. This will bring a lot more MB to your comps as Frosty pointed out.
