Two batteries/ Does it help?

I've been reading around forums and some people say that having to batteries won't fix your voltage drops (dimming lights). Is this true?

not unless you beef up your alternator.

but with your set-up, it might. You're not running a lot of watts.

It will help voltage drops, but from what I've read, it does not stop light dimming.

X2 it when you get into high powered systems IMO, 2K and up, that alternators come into play. However every car is different, so one solution, might not apply to the next.

Well my new setup will consist of an Alpine MRP-M1000 w/ 2 Alpine Type R's lol right now I have a little sub pushing 300 RMS to it and my lights dimm, so if I have a 1000 RMS i need to fix this problem lol can you have a red top battery in the front and a yellow top battery in the trunk?

i believe the alternators in solara's are TINY, so the battery will help, but only so much.

you need something to charge batteries as well. I would grab another battery, than if you still have dimming issues, get an alternator.

Do the big 3, add a good front battery (optima RT), and a small battery in the back. HC 800 being the smallest. How big is you alternator?

If you do decide on an alternator, make sure it's one that would satisfy you current system electrical currents, and if you decide to upgrade later down the road. IMO I'll get a 200a alternator. Maybe a Lil' big right now, buy it's a size you could upgrade on later.

I think it is an 80 amp alt. And can you have a red top in the front and then a yellow top in the trunk, or no?

yeah that's right. The redtop is a starter battery while the yellowtop is a deepcycle battery.

(asking because they are only 200 compared to a 200a for 600)

where are you getting your quotes from?

They should be a good bit cheaper than that.

EDIT: One company said a 170 Amp Alternator would cost my $649. lol
