Two amps, strapped vs. individual, what's the difference?

I'm about to purchase new amps for my car. My subs are two 15" Sundown Zv4 dual 2 ohm, so I can wire them at 1ohm one sub on each amp, or at 2 ohm mono load for a pair of strapped amps (i.e. a pair of Hifonics BRX2400's).

What is the difference in running a single sub off each amp, or running the pair of them off of a pair of strapped amps? I just don't understand the difference.

The reason I ask is I might be going with different amps (not the BRX2400) and they aren't strapable.

If you are using a common box then strapping is needed.. It matches gains and settings alike on both amps.
Oh, I see!
My subs will be in a common box so with the unstrapped amps I guess I'll just have to get them as close as I can with my DMM and oscope //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

no two amps will have the same output this is the reason you'd strap them. so both subs are playing/moving/doing the exact same job at the exact same time

You can do that but I highly reccomend a single bigger amp or two amps strapped. Those are some great subs hope you enjoy them
Thanks! My first Sundown products //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Got them on the black friday deal at CSG, just too good a price to pass up.
I get what you're saying, the subs could move opposite to each other at the same time, sounds like a great way to destroy some new subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Ok, I guess two BRX2400's strapped will do what I need.

Thanks for all the info!

the subs wont go at opposite times, but they wont go at the exact time putting more stress on each woofer. get either one big amp to run them both, or strap to amps.

I couldn't find a single 4k @ 0.5 ohm amp that was around the price of two BRX2400's ($550). If you have something you'd recommend around that price please let me know!

what else can you wire your subs too? 0.5 puts a lot of strain on your electrical system
The pair of subs can be 0.5 or 2 ohms final load. I doubt I'll find a good price on an amp that can do 4k at 2 ohms! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif
The two BRX2400's can be loaded to 2 ohms total when strapped, that's what I had in mind when I bought these dual 2 ohm VC subs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif If I was planning to run em on one amp I woulda got the dual 1 ohm versions (for 1 ohm final load to a single amp).

fair enough, i'd prob look at running them at 2 ohm strapped or get a big monoblock and run them at 2 ohm. not many amps can be wired down to half ohm, and the ones that can are qite expensive.

Ok, thanks. Wasn't sure if there was some super secret 0.5 ohm stable cheater amp that was priced cheap //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I'll keep my eyes peeled for a crazy deal on some strappable amps that are better than the Hifonics BRX2400. If I can't find anything by the weekend I'll have to grab the BRX because my subs will be arriving around then, and I couldn't take sitting on them for very long (without playing them) //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

fair call, I've got the old kx1200.1 kicker mono amp running a dd9510g in my car, wanted to get another one and strap it to give the 10inch more power, then found out once they are strapped the min impedance allowd is 2 ohm so I would actually get less pwr to the sup by running two strapped 1200.1's as aposed to 1x 1200.1 at 1 ohm..... I wasn't happy ay. glad your doing some research befor going balls deep with buying stuff

You could have got a sq3500 1 on black friday for 599 shipped ..does closer to 5k @.5...the ampere is ur best bet I think they had like 20 of them for 550 shipped

You don't need two amps. The speakers come with crossovers to help protect the tweeters.
