Two amps, strapped vs. individual, what's the difference?

ampere is a better bet. your brutus arent going to put out what you want. i have the brx 2400 and its not the worst but i could have gotten way better for just a lil more money

i think it will. acutally i know it will. if you have a beefy enough electrical system for them, i would just go with one beefy one with a better sq level. they do look purdy all lit up with the blue leds in them. if your interested im going to be selling mine here in about 2 weeks. ive ran it for a month at 1600w rms at 2ohms. im just upgrading my system. bought through sonic electronics and am most likely going to be selling for 200 shipped

 
You do realize when you strap an amp it effectively halves the load the amp see's right? So an amp that puts out 1k at 2ohms and 2k at 1ohm, when strapped would only be stable at 2ohms, but would put out 4k at that impedence as a pair, so obviously that's the lowest it will go, it's already putting out as much as 2 amps should.
Im lost lol I am in the same boat im trying to understand this whole strapping thing im sure you explained it in you quote but im not understanding it.... I have 1 ct sounds 1400 on 2 sa12.. I will soon be running 4 12s and 2 1400s my 12s are d4 so 2 12s is 1 ohm and all 4 is 2ohms what im trying to understand is would I get more power wireing a set of 12s to 1ohm on a 1400 or strapping the 1400s and wiring all 4 to 2ohms would I get the same or more power by strapping compared to running a pair of subs to 1 amp

 
When you strap you get the max power you'd expect out of 2 amps. So in your case if those put out 1400 at 1ohm, 2 of them should put out 2800. When you strap them, they will then put out 2800@2. You could run each set of it's own amp at 1 ohm or strap the amps and wire for a 2ohm load. The advantage is they are perfectly level matched in terms of power from each amp and xover etc when you strap, the 2 amps act perfectly as one.

But your right it is a lot easier for a novice or everyday person to strap two amps and call it a day then to set the cross over points and gain match multiple amps.

How much less did you meter?

 
Strapping amps just makes it easier to run both. But you don't have to if you don't want or need to. You can line match the gains and be fine. Difference is. If you strap. One amp controls both and you can use the bass knob if you line. But if one amp blows. Then both can blow. If you line match. You can't use the stock bass knob. You have to set each amp to the same output voltage But if one amp blows the other is most likely to be fine depending On Circumstances

 
It was a test with two 1500 watt amps.
Strapped I got 2700 RMS rise of .85 ohms

Separate I got 1550 RMS each rise of .3

Difference on the termlab was 0.5 dbs
That's crazy I ran into the exact opposite situation with two strapped vs gain matched. Separate the rise was from .5 to 1.4 and strapped was 1 to 2.3 (total) or 1.15 each. I did recone the woofers between the tests, and always attributed this to a slight variation in the soft parts but I really don't know. Crazy

Really, hmmm. Now I think I'm gonna try testing it again this time with a pair of 3kw amps.. Maybe it was just the 1500 amps didn't like being strapped or something internally not up to spec when it was built.. None the less gives me something to do in January. I'll make a video of it when I do, since I couldn't find one anywhere.

 
Strapping loses damping factor as well.... if anybody cares.

wow.......... the whole point of strapping is to run 4 amps on 2 voice coils... (or 2 amps on one)....... that is it. the modern solution is just a real big amp instead. not only do you loose 1/2 dampening, but you introduce many more possible external failure points to a normally contained circuit. there is more advantage to gain syncing than strapping. btw, you do not gain or loose power, you simply double voltage, which means ohms need to double to keep the fets at the same current load.
