Two 8" sub vs. one 10

In my current car I have no room for a 10 inch sub because of my height. I was thinking I could get 4 8's though. Behind my seats i was thinking about making a box that would hold two 8's on each side of the car. Would two eights have the same effectiveness as one ten? Would go as low, I don't know a lot about speaker physics, but i was thinking that two 8's in the same box would count as one speaker. Am i right in thinking this.

Speakers i was thinking about were either 4 8inch L7's or anything else somebody recommends. I have only owned solobarics in my car audio life so I have no experience with anything else. If anybody knows of something that would work better I would take recommendations.

I will be running these of of either zapco or autotek amps. Wattage to be determined once i figure what subs i will be using.

no. more cone area = more sound with the same power

2 would get louder if they were the right subs - also they would have a higher frequency range

no. the only way that two speaker can remotely be 'the same speaker' is in an isobarik enclosure. and you might think about one of these if space is a premimum and $$ isnt. real tough to build correctly however.

well kicker isnt a bad start. i would recommend resonanat engineering eights - RE8 or adire audio 8" koda midbass - i have 2 kodas, and they are great (even though theyve barely seen power and not my box ... yet) i might just install them tonight for shtis and giggles.

great choices. dont forget to add directed audio, mmats, and viper. they are some great amps that make some very clean power as well.

4 RE8's have proven to get very loud, and get very low. so have 6x9's in a wall. the thing is guy, no matter what speaker you got, it can play a tone at 20hz. but you prolly wont even hear it from a 6.5" midbass too well. but if you stack enuf of the speakers together, then they can create the sound you need. 4 RE8's have proven to do this job in the right PORTED enclosure. i think 4 8's with 150 watts a piece would do you quite nicely.

if you could fit a ported box. they would do even nicer.

good luck man.

oh. RE8's are SVC4 woofers. 2 in parallel wil go to 2 ohms, and 4 in parallel (wired right) will get 1ohm. so your looking at about 600w mono amp, or 300w X2 at 2 ohms. those would be the eaisest to find, and those prolly will be the cheapist //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Tnanks, I will look into the RE8's. I have a Orion Cobalt 465 that those would run on just fine for now if i can get the ohm load right. I am very very limited on space. If you guys have any experience with 85-89 mr2's you will knwo what i mean. These are supposeed to go behind the seats so well see. shallower the better.

yeah there is just a lot to stuff u have to figure in not just the size of the woofer. only real difference that size has is xmax , and cone area.. But since u have so much limited space go with the 8's. Cus if u have 8's inthe right enclosure and then have an 10 in it min specs enclosure. Then the eight will do better cus the have more u room. But also remember this, U do not have to alot of spekers to get loud.
