tuning subwoofers

I just have a question how do you tune a box or subwoofer? do you use a frequency cd? im just curious because i built a box for my subwoofers is There specs for the size of the box and the sub to tune it to in the manual for the subwoofer?

The specs of the box determined what it's tuned to. The factors are box volume and port dimensions.
