Revamping ID component location...help wanted.

Ok, first off I am going to try and get the idea I want to get across with as much information and pictures I can.

I have a set of Image Dynamic Chameleons 6.5 comps. These things are amazing, and are the best comp. set I have ever had in my ride (However I have not had too many.) I am powering them with an 4 channel eclipse amp bridged giving 150watts rms x 2 at 4 ohms.

I installed them in my stock door location, easy install, sound deadened the doors, and installed the tweeter by the A pillar area (worked best compared to all the the other locations I tried.) I did not make any pods for them as I never have before and have had no experience with glassing.

My truck is a 1999 Dodge Dakota. These doors are very thick...very. This is also the problem with the stock midrange position:

The doors are so thick that the speaker sits way far back into the door, think of it as hiding deep into the door, by as much as 3.5 inches! All this space and the depth of the speakers did not even get into the windows way when rolled down. Here are some pics addressing the location of the speakers and how deep these mids are rested within the door panel:

Also take note on the grill position on the door panel. The hole for the sound from the speaker to escape (lol for lack of better words) points towards the floor!

When I had a listen when I first installed them with the door panels still off, they sounded AMAZING, good imaging and SQ, great midbass down to 80hz. Then install the the door panels and all that went away. Still sounds really good, but it's tweeter heavy, as a good portion of the midrange is hidden (I can see 10 percent of the driver sitting in drivers position.)

I don't want to cut anything out of the door panels. So here is my idea that I have, and now you get what my issue is, was asking what you all thought of it, as its the only one that I can think of:

I was going to create a speaker baffle out of mdf that was 3 inches thick, like a cylinder. Thus the speaker would be only .5 inches away from the doors hole. This would get those 6.5's out of their cave. I would also cut the end the speaker baffle (the end the speaker would go on) at a slight angle, angling them upwards towards my head. I am pretty sure you can get what I mean by this. Here is a ghetto drawing I did to get the idea across:

Let me know if this is a good or bad idea, and if anyone has any other ideas on how to fix this since the doors **** haha, preferably without creating any kick panels.

Thanks a lot for your thoughts guys. Let me know what you think! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
