Alright, I have a Shark 3500 (yes, I know, but budget permitted during this) and a kenwood kdc bt558u head unit. I don't know the best way to set the head unit to prevent clipping in the meantime before I go somewhere to scope everything. The subsonic is a little less than half on a 0-50hz range and the gain is at about a third of the way. I don't know where my sub woofer level should be at and the gain at, any help or estimates would help.

if you blasting it at top volume then you may want to back it off.I have mine at around 3volts.My hu is 4volt preout but i never turn it up to a really high volume. So doing so seem to make up for the volume difference. Now bass boost never turn that up past 1/4 of the way.If even that high!If you don't have the tools to tune it with all you can do is play with it.Now you know you headunit pre's Just matching them is all your doing!

Hope it helps you some.I know people who turn there amp all the way up and bass boost and turn there sub volume and bass on head unit to negitive whatever all the way down and go at it like that.NEVER DO THAT NEVER.CLIP CITY
