Tuning different to get louder...

My current setup is a Death Penalty 12 in a 2.4 cube box (roughly) with a 6 inch aero tuned to 34 hz. It's being powered off about 1300 watts. I got metered a couple weeks ago and did a 140 (AT 42 hz) even, then last night did a 139.6 (42hz) (last night was hotter so i'm guessing that's what affected my score). I was wonderin if i shortened the port to where it was tuend to lets say 40 hz, would i see a good bit of gain? I'm not wanting a whole db or anything, but what could i expect with tuning the box to 40 or 42? And this is in a regular cab truck, pics are on this forum somewhere just search myname..

it could go up or down, every car/sub/box combo is different, your peak note will go up, with tuning higher.

seat position, mic placment or something else in the truck could have changed, and that effect the score

If you don't know the res frequency of your truck it's a 50/50 deal.

Find a sealed box about 1 cube and put a 10 in it. Bump different tones till you find your loudest. Try tuning about 6 below that and fine tune from there.

well this is the second box i've had in the truck. The first one had a Fi Bl 12 with a 3 inch aero (only thing i could fit) tuned to 30 hz, and it peaked at 43, so i'm pretty sure my peak is anywhere from 42 to 44.. I'll scaled it down to 38 and see what happens. Hopefully i can get enough of a gain to be number one again in my class. The only reason i'm not now is because there is a guy running 4 12's behind his seat in a sealed box off bout 700 watts. Cone area > power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

lower box volume to 2-2.2 and tune at the 38 you've deduced from knowing your truck. i went from 140.3 to 141.5 with a type R 12 by lowering volume and raising tuning a little. i went from 35hz to 41hz, i think.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Well, just figured out i had my gains set to about 1000 watts instead of the 1500 the amp is suppose to put out. I did notice a difference in loudness by turning the gains up to where they should have been. I'l mess with the port tomorrow.. do you think if i bought one of them wal mart SPL meters it would be good for just tuning and seeing if i am in fact getting any louder? I know they are a joke for real number, but for tuning purposes would it be worth it to get one?
