Single sub setups

I was wondering if you would be able to tell a difference (by ear) between a single sub setup? I was considering either running two 15s or 1 18. Would there be any advantage to one setup over the other? I'm talking more musical wise not just which one is louder, if that makes sense.

Its not a 1 vs 2 thing as mentioned.

To roughly figure your cone area, find the area of a circle the size of your sub. IE:

7.5*7.5*3.14= 176.625 (15" sub)

176.625 * 2 = 353.25sq in of cone area.

9*9*3.14= 254.34sq in of port area (18" sub).

So 2 15"s > 1 18"

This usually aids in being louder. Some people like alot of cone area, with a little power, some like a little cone area with alot of power. Some like alot of cone and alof of power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'm not talking about the output of the subs. I know one will be louder than the other depending on the factors. But if you were to just sit in the car would you really be able to tell if someone had a single sub setup vs. multiple subs?

this

no to many factors

a single sub will be just as loud on 2000 watts....as two subs on a 1000 watts if using the same make and size of subs
I disagree. Although the amount off watts is the same the second options has double the cone area and therefore translates roughly into a 3 dB gain. +3 db = double the power or double the cone area.

i think you read that wrong

single sub = 2000w

2 subs = 1000w (500 a piece)

will be the same

No, if your going for SQ then 1 sub will be fine.

Believe me, I've had a few shocked faces when they see that I'm only running 1 sub...I mean it is a BTL with 3kw, lol
