Tundra DD 9515 build

I made some more progress today. I finished painting up the ports, and threw the top of the box on. I also cut the holes for the subs out with a jigsaw //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

Since these subs are HEAVY, I didn't want to screw them in since they will be sitting on the face of the box, not on the top. So, I popped over to the hardware store and picked up some mounting stuff so I can run bolts instead.

Here's what I picked up, and installed. I drilled right through the double baffle for the bolts, then I countersunk from the inside so the nuts would pull into the wood. I also coated them with JB Weld so they are not going anywhere.

I also did some bracing in the box today. I went out and picked up some threaded rod, and some 1" wooden dowels. I threw the wooden dowels in to help brace the top and bottom of the box, and the two threaded rods will brace the rear of the enclosure, basically about 1/3 of the width apart from each other. The threaded rods are only in there for the photos because I will have to remove them in order to carpet the enclosure, then install them properly.

I will also be adding a 2" wide steel plate to the inside of the rear wall, about 20" long on each side. The threaded rod will go through this plate as well. The plate is being installed as a backer for some trailer tie downs that I will install on the outside of the rear (you won't see them when the enclosure is installed), but it will allow me to use ratchet straps to tie down the enclosure to the rear seat mounts. Bolted through the 2" plate on the inside, it will have tons of strength in case of an accident.

You're one of the first people I've actually seen take this into consideration. Nice job //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif

thanks. Considering the box will probably weight about 225lbs after the subs are in, I figured it'd be the smart thing to do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I had to a bunch of running around today, so I didn't have alot of time to work on the box, but I did get some stuff done. I was able to pick up the carpet, and slap it on.

I cut some 2" wide 1/4" steel plate out to bolt the tie downs through, as well as the threaded rod.

Here's the finished rear of the enclosure. I will be using ratchet straps to strap the enclosure down. (the straps will go between the seat back and seat bottom, and I will strap to the seat mounts)

Now all I have to do in the enclosure is wire it, throw it in, then throw in the subs. I'm doing it that way 'cause I don't feel like lifting over 200 lbs to get it in the truck.

My Memphis 4kw is not in yet, so I am not able to throw it in.....which is why I am not in a big rush. It should be here in a few days. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Front components are in. I decided to throw the tweeter in the door, since it's black and silver, and I thought it would match the interior quite nicely. I kept it as close to the mid as I could to prevent imaging issues.

Well, i put the box in today, and ended up with issues on the 4Kw, so I had to pull it right back out. It's not too bad to do with 2 people, but there is no way I could do it alone.

The box doesn't have to come out frequently, but it does have to be removed from time to time.

Here's some progress........

Slight electrical upgrade:

Two Kinetik HC2400's that will be mounted underneath the rear seats, just as you see them here. I picked these up from pedro123 for a great deal.

I also made up a couple of wires to connect the batts together. 2/0 awg //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Oh, and I figured out the issues with the 4Kw. It's all good now.
