In my case, I had two 12s with 360 watts running facing towards the back seat as close to front as possable. When I turned the box around, and pointed the 12s to the back of the car, box in the same spot, it made all the differance in the world! They rock out over 120db!

I don't have a trunk, so I can't give a direct comparison, but I've noticed my sub is a whole lot louder "loading" off the back doors, vs. up front where there's nothing to reflect the waves. Just my experience.
