Truck Speaker Combo? Thoughts?

I recently purchased a 2007 Harley edition f150, this is my first truck I've ever owned. I've had 5 other vehicles (usually suv's) that i was able to cram a ton of whatever speaker combo i wanted to in there and still have room for my every day stuff. But now, not so much. I see a lot of guys cramming these massive boxes under their seat, and somehow manage to fit 3 12's into the back seat... that's great and all, but i have kids to think about, and they need a place to sit.

so Ive done some measuring, i plan on keeping the factory h/u as it has navigation, and comes with a 6 cd changer.. i have already purchased an amp and a soundstream bx-20z processor, my question is:

If you had very limited space, and the choice between 3 10's or 4 8's which one would you pick? I've never had anything less than 12"

thanks

Have you considered raising your back seat an inch or 2 so you can fit a 12?
i guess i never really considered it. It is something to think about though.. problem is, i only have 12" depth from the front of the seat to the back, id have a box sticking out of the front side of my seat 1-2"..

Here's a great example of a subwoofer enclosure for your vehicle that is built to order: 2004-2008 Ford F150 SuperCrew Sub Box Dual Ported Note the comments about the size. There are subwoofers that work well in very small spaces, such as Audiomobile GTS "21" series, but you still could probably do 3 8s at the most. That would be sealed, not ported. One shallow 10" or 12" ported may be doable, but again it depends on the subwoofer and its enclosure requirements.

I mentioned my opinion in another thread also that 4 8' subs in a good sized box would do better then expected.

In your case i would do two 8's in a box large enough to fill available space and you will get a very good outcome if the subs are right for the job.

Airflow/airspace... That's something else i have to worry about now that I"ve never had to worry about before, so i guess my previous suggestions are out of the question. those downfire boxes are pretty sweet, never heard one though, how do they sound?
