Trouble balancing Mids with Sub

Here's my problem, and keep in mind I am newbie. I have a 12" Brahma hooked up to a JBL 1200.1 (wired to 4 ohms) and 2 way components running off a JBL 180.2, all off the stock HU. I set the bass setting on the HU to -4 (it goes from -5 to +5) because that's the level that gives just enough sub bass for my taste. Problem is, by running the bass at -4, my 6.5" midbass drivers are pretty much inaudible, so I only hear the highs from the tweeters and the bass from my sub. Ideally, I would like my midbass to run at +5, and my sub to run at -4, but that's not possible. How do I rememedy this? Do I need an EQ, crossover? Thanks for the help.

u should turn doewn the gain to the sub. then adjest the trebble to ur taste. then just from there adjust the gain to the sub.

I thought the gain was supposed to be set to match the HU, unless I'm mistaken.

Nambo you are correct.. The only thing that comes to mind is and active XO you can leave the amp gains alone but you can turn the XO gains down for the sub..What may help out a bit more is a good EQ.. A good shop would be able to help you get the desired effect..

Sounds like you've got more sub than you need. I suggest trying this:

1) Turn the sub amp gain down to zero. Adjust your HU and main amps till it sounds good. Then bring the sub amp up until you like the results.

2) Put an external volume control in series with the sub's RCA cables. Then you can adjust the bass volume independently from your dash. Works for me.
