Trailer / Welder guys, wanna give a look over of a trailer I made

And yes I believe the axle is very close to perfectly perpindicular to the tongue, within tape measurement user error atleast, maybe 1/8" diffierence if anything

And good job building your own trailer, I was just gonna go buy one at first, but I couldnt find a new one for under a grand, and used were $600+ but I didnt want used anyways. I built this thing for $25 so far (my uncle gave me the axle/spring kit/tongque for helping him move) so Im pretty happy with it

I just realized the box tubing is slightly bigger, so it is a fillet. It appeared the same size at first glance.
I said stick weld because i'm assuming he welded them with a 110V flux core machine, which is not as strong as a 7018 joint. Even if he used an E70XX-X wire (having the same tensile strength as E7018 electrodes) you have to remember the amperage being used, and the process.

Sure, Fluxcore is used everyday for structural purposes, but those machines are pushing upwards of 300A using an external wire feeder. Where this material is light duty, he should be fine, like stated above.

I agree with the first paragraph in your post. Assuming they are good welds.
If he is getting sufficient penetration, why do you suggest he would have been better off with a higher amperage welder?
How much weight is this trailer going to hold?

Just a general trailer, I dont do renovations or anything, itll probly just see wood, camping shit, some loads of garbage for the dump....

Ive got a 4 wheeler, dont see why this trailer wouldnt work for that to

He never said anything about sufficient penetration until after that post, so don't patronize me like I'm talking out of my ass.

I also stated that he should be just fine, as it is light duty.

I simply gave him MY advice, which he asked for, and stated how I do it.

I have a degree in welding, and will soon have my bachelors in welding engineering - I'm not giving advice that my uncle's friend's son told me, nor did I read it off an inaccurate website.

I didn't realize this was only holding a few hundred pounds.. If that's the case, you won't have a problem at all.

Its amazing how defensive you got over a simple question.

Patronizing? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

Yeah the same with me. Got all the scrap metal for the framework free, got the plywood for the bed for free, got the axle with new tires for free. So far only had to pay for paint and an hitch coupler. About $25 in mine too.

That is the only support I could think of from what you said, I could pick up some round bar and try and cut the angles good and weld that in there, but the tongue does seem to flex a little and I dont get how it is able to
The red lines you drew on the pic should follow(on the underside) the triangle created by the nose and end up about halfway between the front of the trailer and the front mount for the axle.

Oh I forgot about that cost, I had to buy the ball and drop down bar whatever you wanna call it for $22

So you guys dont think I should have weld those extra braces onto the tonque?
