overrated how? and what BMW? When i said rustangs are overrated i was talking about their horsepower. cuz he said that his 260hp rustang was nothing. And i said yea cuz their overrated-refering to their horsepower. but yea how do u think bimmers are overrated? Is it because a 190hp 325 can own a cobra on the track? hmmm its funny how bimmers arent straight line cars at all and an e36 m3 with 240hp can beat a 00'+ mustang GT in a straight line when their rated power is what, 280?
It was sarcasm.

who the hell mods a supra anyway????

na jus kidding...but supras forreal are dyno queens...they cant get any of their power to the ground once they are modded over 500hp.

theres this kid with a rich dad at the school across town...hes 17 had an xterra on spinners traded it in for an rx7 and a supra, i have no respect for the kid whatsoever. anyway thats my 2 cents and a few more bucks...

dude i don't see where you are getting that about 500hp can't get to the ground. if that were true a 500hp supra would run close 1/4 mile time to a 900-1100hp supra. buddy of mine has 985rwhp in his supra and i assure you plenty of it stays on the ground;).

It's not a problem of the power getting to the ground, it's a question of how usable the power is. Lets compare two similar vehicles, a 700hp modified 03 Cobra vs. a 700hp modified 94 Supra. The 03 Cobra has 500+ lb/ft of torque from 2000rpm, vs the 100+ lb/ft of torque for the Supra. While the Supra certainly has peak torque that is respectable, the torque curve is not very conductive to an actual drag race. You have to launch at very high RPMs in order to have enough torque to keep up, but because of this, if you screw up the launch, you will be in a serious hole, as the engine has such a severely limited power band.

The Cobra, on the other hand, can be launched at a lower RPM and still have enough power to rip out of the hole. Because of the wider power band, it will have a much faster 1/4 mile time, quite likely in the low 10's or high 9's. The Supra, with the same peak numbers, will be in the high to mid 10's. I could dig up time slips and dyno sheets if you really want, but I don't feel like doing that right now.

i know my buddy runs a 9.8 with his supra. that's a lot of fun to ride in:D. then again my other car that is half mine and half my friends, we got it when our best friend died, is a 98' z28 with 750rwhp and that runs 10 flat. so i see where you are getting at man good point:D.

... skyline engine.... uhh gtr RB26dett is 4wd!!!!

rb25det/rb20 no in league..

as for orginal post.. 500whp is fairly easy..big turbo .. fuel mang.. and bolt-ons.. i know the tranns holds up to 600whp or so.. as for NA.. don't got there if you could get turbo 6spd.. and Auto 2JZGTE ***** can barely hold 500whp w/o abuse.. see a GS300 with that setup..

To the guy with the orginal post.....

The engine in the Supra, MKIV is super strong and can hold it's own, when you are throwing like 20+ psi through a single or dual turbo setup. The compression ratio it spits out, is crazy too imagine. But a Supra is also quite heavy....500hp supra will lose to a 350hp FD(3rd gen RX7).

Now to the guy with the skyline comment....

WTF man, like WTF? I bet you the Aussie's are thinking WTF right now.

Yeah im 18, with a twin turbo 300zx it very much so fast enough for me, and i've been driving since i was 5...im fairly sure u'll be a road fatality with a 600hp supra...(pieces of junk)...get a medicore car and learn how to drive, no matter how much ur teenage ego is inflated at the moment, u'll soon get cut down if u crash...

Amen to that... I know too many people that have taken Supras and RX-7s for a spin and had some real problems, either in accidents or tickets. Get yourself a nice little Honda, save some big money, mod it, and get to know cars first. THEN buy a 600hp Supra.

Alright back to the main topic. First of all I think the turbo Supra is a great choice if you are looking for something to take to the track. But serieously after you get the car take it to a driving school and learn how to really drive (I'm not saying your a bad driver because your 16) but trust me it helps. then I would get some good rubber and a few suspension upgrades (springs, struts, sway bars etc.) Later after you are comfterbale with the car you can start modding the engine. Start with an ecu reflash than look at turboback exhaust and up, along with headers remember you want to keep the ECU updated with any major modifications. Then you can start looking at bigger turbo. intercooler, piping, fuel system, and all the parts you need to make it work. Of corse get some big brembo breaks and other handeling upgrades to keep up with your new 600+ horsepower =) Look for some tunning companines for some staged engine upgrades to help you simplify the process and you will have one nice supra that is track ready but you will probly sacrafice everyday streetability. Oh well its worth it. Good luck I hope your project goes well.
