Toyota change Wiring Harnesses?

At one time I drove a '90 4Runner, and was running a JVC Kameleon Head Unit that I had prfessionally installed. I recently purchased a choice 99 Limited 4Runner, and I am trying to transfer the deck over. The harness doesn't seem to fit. Did Toyota change their harness between 90 and 99? And if so, what would be the best item to buy? I called up Circiut City to ask them, and the dude told me to throw away my old harness, and that my best option was to buy a JVC to Universal Harness, and then a Universal to Toyota Harness. Is all of that really necessary, especially if I already have that harness for the 90? Thanks.

Yes and No. You have a single plug on your 99 right? That's going from the headunit to the amp. If I remember right (maybe) the amp should be behind the radio, fairly close on that vehicle.

If the amp is where I remember it being, unbolt it and there will be your standard two plug toyota harness right there waiting for you.

the harness the dude at circuit city is talking about is what you have right now, just ignore that.

OK, upon further review, I found the amp and removed it, finding the two-plug harness. Now for the interesting part. On my last 4Runner, I used the Preamp RCA's to go to an amp, so none of the speakers were hooked up to the harness on the HU end. 1. Does that make sense? Also, the JVC end only has one of the two plugs, with the smaller of the two left unused. 2. Is that going to matter? 3. Also, what are the two black plugs that don't come from the harness? They don't go through the amp, just straight into the back of the HU. They both look like RCA cables without the metal ring around the jack. One is a little smaller than the other, I only seem to need the larger one with my new HU. On the stock one, the HU would power off if I disconnected it, but not on my JVC. Hmmm, thanks already for all of the help.

circuit city will **** you over...as they were going to do to me...went to pc richards didnt have to buy any "Extra Wires That You Need For $20 Each" like they said and only cost $45+Tax to install....Onlinecarstereo.com should have them for cheap or your local walmart should have them for around $7

i have an 88 Toyota but the harness that i got was from 85-89 so idk

Hey, I did cut the (some of) the Toyota factory harness, and hard-wired it. It seemed to work great. Are there any future problems that I could encounter with this? The splices won't come off for sure, but are there any other problems?
