top of the line radios top of the line EQ's?

actually it does. active just means that the crossover network is powered. if it has a bandpass feature than it's 2 way active capable. also if your amp doesn't have a bandpass function but your head unit has a HPF where you would bandpass does it now become active capable than?
passive means it's not powered to controls

active means its powered to control
To be a fully active amp it has to band pass the mid somehow. They call the ones your talking about active capable but if the HU can't high pass the mid it's really not.

wow really people. so why is there no lowpass filter that would put a ceiling on the tweeter frequency?

again, active just mean it receives power to work while passive means it's doesn't.

BUT if it's not high passing it than it's not powering anything. Tweeters don't need a ceiling.. Do I really have to go Barney still here?

Look at the crossover section of a jl 450/4, a real full active amp

why don't you just google "active crossover network vs passive crossover network". tweeters don't need a ceiling but all other speakers do? just to show you don't know what you're talking about, there is no such thing as "full active", so a 3-way would be what? 4-way would be? exactly.

Tweeters can play higher than the source can produce. I ran a 3 way active setup and it was dialed in. I know a bit about how it works. Did you look at what I said? If you did you would see the difference. And this conversation would be over.

yes I did but you are still not understanding that "active" just means that it needs power to work. an amp can have a HPF that is 200hz down to 50hz, that crossover network is still "active". by you're information a mono amp that only has an frequency range of 250hz down to 20hz is "full active" b/c it has a HPF and LPF. you guys need to really get your facts straight before putting information out there. a "bandpass" frequency range does not mean active it just means it's limited but you saying it's "full active".

I know the difference between active and passive. Active is frequencies filtered before amping. Then when you amp you are only amping what you want to play not the full spectrum. Passive is the opposite. You amp everything and cut what you dont want.

To do active properly from an amp like you can do with a headunit like the 9887 it needs more than just the HPF/LPF.
