Tools For Box Building

Got everything today, and forgot I had last the charger for my drill. Just going to paint and prep tonight.

The guy at Lowes got most the cuts right. A few are off from 1/16th to 1/8 of an inch. Going to have to do a lot of sanding.

The Jigsaw I got is capable of cutting 45s, so at least that will be taken care of.

EDIT: The only really bad piece is the left side wall. Its about 1/8in too short. Luckily there is one piece of scrap big enough that I can cut to replace it.

Honestly, you don't need 45s. The safest way to cut them is on the table saw with a splitter, feather board and push stick. If you're set on 45s, at least cut one angle BEFORE you cut the piece to size. The second angle is going to be hazardous no matter how you go about it with a jig saw. In my opinion, it isn't worth it.

Use a a straight edge as a guide when cutting your panels. Free handing doesn't produce straight cuts no matter how hard you try to stay on the line.

I use a table saw, router and a joiner. When I switched from the jigsaw to the router, I cut a crap ton of time off. Took me more time to clamp the piece down and move it than to cut the hole. The joiner is necessary cuz my the table saw is used with a homemade fence, that contrary to what my dad thinks, is not a true straight edge. I like to use loctite power grab heavy duty construction adhesive. Its 5 bucks a tube at Lowes or Home Depot and lasts for about a 3.5-4 cu/ft box, using big thick beads. I predrill all my holes and go 1.5-2in in from corners. I use a Stanley screwmate countersink bits to do this. I got them at Ornamental Tool and Die in Parma, OH. Here's the adhesive:

Sorry to bump an old thread. But you can also use the phillips head bit on your drill to make countersink holes by rotating it in the predrilled holes, using a circular motion at like a 45 degree angle.
The bit required is $20 or less...just buy the right tools instead of "making it work".

Besides if your trying to make ghetto countersink holes just grab the biggest drill bit you have and use that. Put it the hole with little to no pressure and just squeeze the trigger for a second or so, makes a decent countersink and is free since you should already have drill bits.

It really isn't that hard to get the countersink bit though, any decent drill bit set should have one. I've bought a few very nice sets with many bits for less $20 in the past. They may not be professional grade but I'm not a professional so that's ok with me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

It works for me. If I bought all the right tools, I'd have myself a really nice table saw, a cnc router, compressor w/ spray guns, etc. If it works, it works, regardless how you get to the end result.

I guess...as long as your not doing it for others and charging for it lol.
