Too much wattage decreases sound

Say you take an amp that is rated at 800 rms, and you run it into subwoofers that are rated at 500rms, will the subwoofers sound less loud even though they are still beating very hard?

If anything they'll be louder(but with that amount of difference you probably won't notice it), I know theres a difference powering my Type R with 1000 watts vs 300

I am running a Orion 1200d on 2 12" mtx magnums, I believe at 2 ohms but I am not a hundred percent sure they are 4 ohm subs they might be 8 ohm subs. So I am either running them at 2 or 4 ohms.

That's the problem I have no idea, they are my buddies subs. I guess I will do a multimeter ohm test tomorrow. They are SVC by the way.

Haha well he is really picky about me doing stuff to his car, so he probably won't let me take them out of the box, so a multimeter is my closest bet. But different websites say they are 4 ohm subs and others say they are 8 ohm subs.

So did you go from less power to more power? If so then like said before you're either not doing something right or you could be confusing distortion with clean bass.

Wow that was a dang good guess I had haha. His subwoofer wires were marked incorrectly by whoever wired them last. The system pounds now!
