Too much power???

Ok guys,

I am really bad about making up my mind, especially when it comes to subwoofers, but I have finally decided to go with Memphis MClass Subs and Amps. My question though, is the single 4 ohm subs have a 200 watt MAX, 100 RMS wattage, and the amp I want has 150 watts RMS x 2 at 4ohm, and 240 watts RMS x 2 at 2ohms. So there is no telling what the actual peak of the amp is, and of course two of those 8" will provide a 2ohm load. And my only other option would be the DVC 4ohm 8"s, but that would make a 1ohm load, and even if the amp could handle that, it would put out even MORE watts!

I am wanting to get the last SVC one that SonicElectronix.com has, since it is on sale, that way I can go ahead and start on my fiberglassing, and but the other when I am done. Will this amp be too powerfull for these subs, if I set the gain right, will I be ok, or am I sure to burn them up???

I would like to keep the Subs and Amps the same MClass series.

Thanks guys for any and all help!

Are there any more places online that sell more MClass amps than SonicElectronics? I would rather give it just a tad more than RMS, not over PEAK.

Thanks guys!

well here, never look at maximum wattage. always look at RMS rating because that is the actual output of the amp. so in your case the RMS on your subs is 100 watts and your amp will put out 150 x 2 @ 4 ohms. this is actually a good thing to have because headroom is always good. your amp won't have to work as hard as the gain on your amp will be low somewhat. just like stated above, just watch the gains and you'll be fine.

Yes, but two of those subs would make a 2ohm load, meaning the RMS going to the subs would be 240x2.

Correct???//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

no you are wrong. if you hook up the subs directly to the amp with each sub have its own independent channel, the load the amp see for each sub is 4 ohms.

get the dual 2 ohm models, wire them to get a 4 ohm load, hook one sub to one channel, the other to the second channel, set your gains wisely and enjoy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Ok, I see now, the wiring diagram on SoundDomain didn't go down all the way, so the DVC 2Ohms and that amp will be perfect. Thanks for all your help guys!

Ok, well I have never hooked subs up to a 2 channel amp, but the SVC 4Ohm subs should be fine, like said above I can wire one sub Pos and Neg to one channel, and the other Pos and Neg to the other channel, and they would be at 4 Ohms getting the 150 X 2 correct?
