Subwoofer Problem....

I just bought a Dayton DVC subwoofer

I hooked it up fine...parallel

I mounted it inverted (long story)

it sounds amazing inside the vehicle...it gets louder than I actually want it to be.

problem is, when I open my trunk the sub rattles. The sub is brand new and its receiving 700-800 watts RMS witht he gains down and bass boost at zero (as always). Sub is conservatively rated at 600 wrms.

It started making this sound as soon as I hooked it up.

what could it be?

What do you have the gains set at? You turned it up even though it rattled right when you hooked it up? What amp?

PRSX720 amp

gains almost all the way down (1/8 or so)

didnt turn it up full blast

Im thinking it might be an air leak.....Im going to check it out later on

Since you have the sub inverted...it could just be a little bit of mechanical noise.

Check for airleaks, as you mentioned.....other than that, try playing it free-air and see if it still makes the noise. If it does, try to narrow down where the sound is coming from.

bass goes low man.....SQ is great, but, when I play it loud I can hear the rattle a bit.

louder than the 12" SE I had before (from 50 hz. and up)

the SE actually hits the lower notes with more authority.

I have it in a 3.2 cu ft vented enclosure tuned to 29 hz

Squeak...do you know if air leaks can damage a sub?

Is it mounted vertically, or at an angle? May be sagging or rubbing.

Small leak...probably not.

Large leak....possible.

I'm going to have to agree with Brad on this one. Sounds like nothing more than a mechanical noise. They have a 5 year warranty, so why sweat it.

And BTW, just for your information, your precious Steelers will be the ones getting pwnd this weekend.
