what does having too much port area cause?

Diamond says 3in Ø port per 10" D3. Thats 7in² per sub.

Im running D3 10s in a 2 cube box with 19.5in² tuned to 31.5hz.

would that be why my bass seems muddy?

I was thinking it might be the settings on my cheap amp, but then this problem hit me like an escaped lab monkey seekin revenge for those ****ed makeup tests by using a tube sock and bar of soap and attacking first time box builders...

Does 2 cubes sound about right for 2 10s?

how does this look? 2 cubes, 29" of port

and is .75" mdf the norm? or would it be ok to go down to .5" mdf with smaller subs?

.75" would be wanted. And small bracing even could be used for this application.

2-2.5 cubes should be fine.

That looks better for port area. But you only have 12.5x2=25. Could go 12.5x2.25 and simply adjust length/airspace (displacement) accordingly.
