Too much for Everyday?

I was going to get just one IDMAX 12 v.3 and run it with a jl 500.1 or something. But there is a good deal on here for that mtx 1500. So what I want to know would 2 IDMAXs running at 1 ohm getting 1000wrms a peice be too much for normal everyday driving? I can adjust it and everything I just dont want so much bass that I get tired of it. Should I just stick with one IDMAX and a smaller amp or what. Thanks.

i wouldn't give the idmax their peak power handiling, they will start to whine............. i had 2 of them in a 2.5cf tuned to 30hz connected to a mtx 1501d modded and i only had the gains almost at 3/4 up and they wanged like no other, i recommend running about 800-900 watts into an idmax, trust me u will be please

Well that is a good deal on that amp in the for sale forum, the modded ones. The guy says that I should run it at 2 ohm and that will feed out around 2000Watts. I am new to this, but cant you just turn your gains down and then they wont whine.

As for the box, I guess I will just use this program I think someone mentioned on here, it is for building a sealed box. And figure out how big of a box I need for the two subs, I will be making it myself, out of 3/4" MDF and doing everything right, It will be sealed as I guess that is what Image Dynamics recommends for these subs. They hit harder in a ported around 30hz I guess, but anywhere else a sealed is better It looks like, and I was looking for quick hard hits out of these, something that will keep up with Metallicas double kicks on their drums and such. The box will also be fibreglassed on the outside I think.

I can either build one box for both, or Do you guys think I should just build a box for each, because it is going in a reg. cab pickup, So then I could put one on each side and still have a big space in the middle to put amps or whatever. What do you guys think? A box for both, or a box for each?

Also would 1/0 gauge wire running this amp, plus an Xtant 403A, and an Xtant 302A be sufficient or should I go to a larger size?

Also about the amp, If I ran it at 2ohm, then it would be pushing out something like 1600W I think, so thats about 800W to each sub, but Scottie says I should run it at 1ohm. What do you guys think?

Thanks

just depends on how good your electric system is, at 2 ohms it is rated at 1500 ohm maybe a lil higher since mtx under-rates their stuff, i'm running mine at 1ohm load and i would say its pushin a lil bit more than 2000 watts......... as far as box, its upto you and your taste, if u want sq go sealed, if u want spl go ported....... how much room u got to play with

So will 2000watts be okay for those subs? Just if I turn the gain down? How do I do this?

And as for the box, I am going to go sealed, and the room that I have isnt all that much, like I said its a reg. cab pickup. So these are just going behind the seat, the room back there is about a foot deep, five feet long, and a foot high, I can go higher, but it tapers off slowly because of the seats. I think I will have plenty of room. I have to have the three amps behind there too, but I think I am going to mount them against the backboard there. So they wont take up much room. I will be sure to get pictures up of the box and my setup when Im all done.

Also how many amps will be running through the main wire for all three of the amps I mentioned before. The 403A, the 302A and the 1501d? I am wondering just in case I have to get a bigger alternator or not. And the batteries will be replaced soon with some Optima Yellow Tops, the group 31s.

How does this all sound to you guys?

I am just wondering how big of wire I need to go for the big three, 1/0 gauge would have been good before but now wit hthat huge amp I dont know.

Thanks

-Jared

yeah i would replace the alternator, and an extra battery would help the load, pretty much to set your gains, you turn the gains all the way down on your amp, turn your HU up to the volume u think would be the max you r goin to listen 2, then on your amp slowly turn your amp gains up, once u hear your subs start to whine or hear distortion stop then slightly turn the gain back down a bit and then your set
