Too Hot for my Blaupunkt

I've got a Blaupunkt in my Volvo that is dying of the heat. The mounting position is directly above the face-level vents, and during the two heating seasons I have owned it, the display has died and the buttons have gone haywire. At this point, the stereo is a total loss, and I will have to get another one.

The real problem is that I don't want to get another stereo and have it die, too. Obviously, this is not a problem for the stock Volvo stereos. I'm wondering if anyone out there has ever experienced this kind of issue and how they solved the problem.

I'd also like to know if anyone has any ideas about heatproofing the stereo. I need at least to put a layer of heatproofing of some sort between the vent unit and the stereo above it. There's not a lot of room, there, perhaps only 1/8". Suggestions I have received already, or come up with myself include a piece of thin plywood, or masonite hardboard. I thought I might layer on some aluminum foil on the underside to dissipate the heat. It occurs to me, though, that this might be counterproductive, as it might conduct the heat around the layer of heatproofing.

A car stereo installer gave me a slice of Dynamat, which he thought might make a good heatproofing layer.

Any other ideas, or views on these ideas?

the dynamat might work but i would look into insulation. try lowes or home depot. they make insulation for heat vents in houses that have a reflective foil like backing on it. that would give you the best insulation between the heat vents and the HU. that and maybe a fan. my alpine has a fan built into it.
