To the all around car guy

Posted this on a couple other forums....figured why not here. I like diverse and highly opiniated answers. It helps me decide, so I post in multiple locations:

So here it goes.

I will begin a second job at the beginning of the summer, and I am "confuddled". I know my funds from the second job will be going into the car but I have such a vast question to ask.

Performance or audio?

I some input on weather to make my 3800 camaro a sleeper or make it beat down the block. Will be able to support around 1500-2500 in each direction so keep that in mind.

Performance:

-Cam, Headers, Throttle Body, Rockers, Drivetrain, Rearend, Ignition, CPU all that jazz and possible the supercharger from an L67(if i make more than projected)

Audio:

-All will be in a subthump custom enclosure(2.5cube-3 max)

-HU will be a pioneer DEH-P5000UB

-First Option

(2) Kicker L7s

Zx1500.1 to power

Kicker DS650 comps

2nd Option:

FI BTL 12"

MMATS 2100.1

Alpine Type R comps

3rd:

RE STX or XXX 12"

MMats 2100.2

Kicker DS650comps

4th Option:

FI BTL 15"

MMats 2100.1

Alpine Type R comps

Now all except for the two Kickers and the 15" are optimal in a 2.5cub ported enclosure. All are optimal in a sealed encloser excepts the RE which does not recommend Sealed. What do you say Audio or Performance?

If you choose audio please show support for an option or choose you own to go into a 1996 Camaro. Btw, if you can't tell im going mainly for an SPL setup so those system recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks,

yenko

You're asking on a car audio forum if we'd do audio or performance? Really? Putting money into performance on a 3.8 is a waste IMO. Save up a bit more and drop a 350 or 383 in there, and until then, audio.

I'd say option 2 or 3 will both be good. You simply don't have the space in a 4th gen to fit a box optimal for 1 or 4.

stick to the audio, its a v6. make it look nice and sound great and just drive it. if your leaning towards performance, at least scoop an lt1 or even an ls motor, then go from there. good luck.

A bit sarcastic are we?

I understand this is an audio forum. But you would be awe struck if you found out that on performance sites some go for audio. Its all opinionated and that what I said in the beginning. I like diversification among answers.

a v-6 camaro. i would do the stereo personally. i wouldnt waste my money trying to make that 3800 fast. cuz when you still get beat by a stock 5.0 mustang or a stock 5.7 camaro then you will be disappointed and want to dump more money into a useless 3800.

Audio, since that 3800 probably has 100.000 miles on it anyway. Although those old 3.8 turbo Grand Nationals were slick. The 3.8 is a good motor altough, like was pointed out before: you can spend 2000 and then get beat by a stock lt or ls car. Its simple for the amount of money you want to spend do the audio. Youll get more joy for your dollars.

70k on an 96

I completely agree on the GN though, kind of my dream car.

the 3.8 and the 3800 are different engines. Both are still great motors. But for what you have i still say go the stereo route. Im a big gear head/muscle car guy but when it boils down to it i enjoy my bass alot more. Plus with the cost of gas these days making your car a performance car is pointless.

A true statement. I have decided on going audio beings Ill probably have this car for a few years. So If moderators around here delete posts, please do so. I have no further questions thank you for your help.
