Time to say goodbye to what was probably the loudest 94 Audi S4 in the world...

SPLC Fails
THIS IS A LONG READ, NO CLIFS FOR YOU. Read if you are a car guy...you might find it entertaining.

I hit 140.5 sealed IASCA and won my first competition with her. Could have easily done way better too, I was just bullshitting around. I highly doubt there is any other C4 (generation) Audi S4 that has hit above 140db, let alone one with a subwoofer in it...These are rare, collectible cars that usually aren't owned by bass-head adolescents like me.

She's just too expensive to fix...I got a $4k loan for it, and before even paying a PENNY of that (and 10k miles and 8 months later), I have invested another $4k into it, $2500 which I haven't paid off. I'm going to see a $4k net loss in this car when I sell it for what I paid for it, since it's in the same condition I bought it in (but with new tires, Eclipse deck & alpine amp, and "deleted" rear muffler).

Long story as short as I can make it...a week after I bought the car, the oil pump went out. Subsequently, my promised re-admittance to AT&T as a permanent Sales Support Representative (formerly a temporary greeter through a 3rd party agency, the job ended a week before I bought the car) was postponed 2 months, meaning I was unemployed for that time. My dad told me to take it to Peter's Automotive to get it fixed. $130 tow and $2500 later (and two months out), it was "fixed". A week after, the turbo started to go out. I also noticed a noise at this time, of which I thought was an exhaust leak above 3k rpm, and the suspension got really noisy. I ignored both issues and saved up to replace the turbo. After replacing the turbo, the tires (with less than 10k on them) showed dangerously low tread. Then the auxiliary water pump went out. Then an intermittent check engine light appeared. Brake squeal also appeared, which turned into metal-on-metal scraping. I replaced the tires, the aux. water pump, fixed the seized brake caliper piston and got new pads/rotors, and then got some great news...the exhaust noise was a rod knock, and the check engine light was the cam position sensor (a BITCH to replace). So I ended up getting those fixed as well.

A little fyi...my new mechanic (and myself) fixed the rest of the issues in the paragraph above. He said he has NEVER seen or heard of one single C4 S4 having the oil pump gone out on them. When replacing the rod bearings, he noticed scarring on the crankshaft, which meant I had to cross my fingers and hope that the rod bearing replacement would quiet her down (I couldn't afford $2500+ for the crankshaft AND bearing replacement). Luckily, it did. But when he was taking it apart, he noticed the subframe screws were loose. This was a mistake the previous shop made, which was the cause of my suspension noises! When it came to doing the Cam Position Sensor later, he noticed the cam timing was retarded, another mistake the previous shop made! He also noted that everything was likely a chain of events judging by the damage to the rod bearings...The oil pump threw dirt into the pan, which clogged the turbo oil inlet/outlet and made it go bad, scarred the rod bearings, and likely had something to do with the cam position sensor. In other words, the most unlikely failure that could have ever happened on this car not only happened, but it caused a series of catastrophes that ruined every other expensive internal engine component.

So here I am now...Forced to sell my car because I fear it. I am afraid the rod knock may reappear because of the scarred camshaft, or something else will go wrong. I am too far in debt at this point to risk continuing that debt, I have to take action and sell the car and get something cheaper to work on. This is by far the best car I have ever owned, it was a dream car from the day I saw one. It is one of the best all-around cars imho, combining luxury with performance in a classy q-car bodystyle. I have a severe emotional attachment to this car, and will probably have a hard time sleeping after I sell it.

Hope you guys enjoyed the story...Here are some pics

Man!... I've done this with a couple vehicles. I had a buick that had 80k on it and sat for three years. I thought I was getting the best deal ever for 5 bills... wrong! everything that could go wrong with this car did go wrong... and I replaced it. Cost me about 2 grand, would of been over 5g's if it wasn't for my discounted mechanic and parts.

Anyway to make a long story short... I was scared to turn that key thinking it was gonna break down again and when I drove it and heard any little sound I'd freak. I call this "being a hypersensitive car owner" So I sold it to some young girl and felt confident she was getting a great deal because everything was replaced.

So yeah, I feel your pain. I just bought my EB for 11g's and one month down the road... bad viscous coupling:( 1500.00 repair. Thats cars for ya. I dont care as much anymore. just get it fixed and hope there isn't anything else to soon, and if there is... I'll fix that to.

Wow, you can really tell your gonna miss this car, I hate you gotta get rid of it because of so many problems caused by so many other people. It would be different if you had hot rodded it everywhere and generally kept it a state of disrepair, but you didn't, you took very good car of it. This is one of my reasons I never let other mechanics touch my vehicles. Lots of people don't have that option though, and have to trust someone else for repair needs. Have you decided on which type of vehicle you plan to replace it with?

ummm couple things.. car is ugly.. looks like a p.o.s saab 9.4.. secondly.. stop buying used cars if you can't inspect them cause you will get butt fucked.. stop buying used cars in general they have no warranty.. stop buying cars that cost an arm and a leg to repair when a domestic would cost $100 or so.. can't think of anything else at the moment.. Or maybe you just can't upkeep your vehicles idk... I got my first car.. 2001 nissan altima from my mom as I knew how she drove/maintained it I put maybe $1k in repairs over the 4 years I owned it.. and My second vehicle I bought from someone I know and it only had 30k getting the extended warranty up to 125k on it..

But after all that.. I can feel your pain.. I still have my first car.. Idk if I can get rid of it.. I kept that car pristine for the most part.. every scratch I would find kinda killed me inside.. from a door ding or rock chip.. I spent some time on that car.. LOTS and LOTS of hours, sweat, probably a little blood from dampener lol

Yeah. The jeep I bought for 7k a year later just broke something in the engine. I've been so pis sed off at it I've yet to try to figure out what it is, but its not good. Buddy's got an early 00's maybe late 90's honda with a brand new ls/vtec swap and some other goodies for 2100, so I think I'm just going to buy the honda and let the jeep sit until I can save some money.

That ***** that you have to sell your car. I know how it feels to get attached to a car but realize its costing more than you can ever hope to reclaim.

Did you have it at the Vancouver comp? I left before the end of the show, so I missed it, if you were there.

The Audi/VW platform has gone way downhill since the 90's. I think I told you before, I had a 1.8T Jetta with low miles and nearly every sensor, the turbo, ignition system and other parts were replaced and still had check engine light come on regularly. Engine ran great, but the computer would keep going into limp home.

Get yourself a low mile BMW, if you want to keep running German cars. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Otherwise, RX-7's are very fun and cheap to maintain.

too attached to my car to ever sell it...if it breaks and i don't have the cash at the time/if it's unreasonably expensive to fix it, then it's going to sit there for years until I can afford to fix it. /horder

on a side note this is why I had to choose a chevy over a volvo (Saw some of the repair costs and said fvvvvvvvvck that)

good looking car though. If you were keeping it, I'd say drop the ride height a little to give it some moar s3xy
