Time to help me decide on a 12" beast!

I was just reading that the TDX's don't have a flat line, so that they would have more distortion.
Distortion isn't always a bad thing...there's good and bad distortion, and whether you like it or not is subjective. Technically speaking, yes - XBL^2 drivers will have lower distortion - whether you want that or not is up to you.

There is not really 'good' distortion, unless you mean distortion intentionally added to the music, by the musicians. I should have known, the day BL optimized drivers like the XXX or Brahma (or W7 etc) were released, with their ridiculously low distortion ( //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ), people would start using the term subjective or as I call it, the S word, to try to say distortion can be a good thing. Im really failing to see how the sound system adding distortion to the music reproduction due to stress can improve personally perceived sound quality. *shrug*

Point is, distortion is not like cholesterol where there are different types, and some are good. IMO saying there is 'good and bad distortion' is misleading. And honestly, I dont think the arguement that some people prefer the sound of traditional speakers with more distortion holds much water. Why? Its a perceived thing, what people are use to. Are those people who say they like this added distortion trying to convince us they will never upgrade to another sub with 'better SQ', ever again? Right. 20 years from now when we have speakers that blow away even today's super SQ BL optimized subs, will those guys still be running their 2002 Infiniti Perfects (for example) because they add just the right amount of distortion? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

IIRC RE recommends 1.0 cuft sealed for a XXX 12 SQ box, so that would actually be big. Not alot of people realize XXX's run in fairly small sealed boxes. But yeah I agree the XXX would probably want more than 1000 watts.

Ok, so I guess an XXX isn't a possibility.

So IDMAX12 vs RE SX vs Diamond TDX, in a ~1-2 cube sealed box, how are they going to compare SQ and SPL wise???

I have a JL 12W7 for sale.

xxx's are great subs that are often compared to a brahma. I hear alot of people say the brahma has a bit more sq, and the xxx has a bit more spl.

have you looked into stereointegrity magnums?

So I'm totally stumped.

>>>I plan on running a sealed box anywhere up to about 1.75 cubes.

>>>I can also run anywhere up to 1100 watts, or whatever you guys think my stock electrical system can handle (03 toyota Tundra)

Would would a Diamond TDX, a ID MAX 12, and an XXX compare in this situation SPL and SQ wise?

Sorry for all the questions guys, I'm just a picky, indecisive guy looking to spend his hard earned cash to the best of his ability!

I am not nearly an expert but you said no such thing as good distortion

so as I understand it XBL2=less distortion over a larger piece of the sub bass music pie

and it just so happens that the only XBL2 driver on your list has more xmax than the others which means it can move more air and it's all about how much air you move so I think you choice is pretty clear......XXX
