And how many cars have you tuned? What was your last score? Brother it's fine. I'll stick with the conventional install and tuning. KISS works.
Im talking from a performance stand point.

You are apparantly having an issue and I think having the correct 2nd order over 1st order will drastically help you.

My issue was caused by a fast ring I didn't trim enough off of. Not the performance of the driver.

You perfer ib over sealed qtc of .707?Nearly ever ib drop in ive done had excellent extension but lacked output as compared to a well sealed and ideal qtc alignment.
I tend to favor the sound of .577 to for some reason. I also never use a 12dB filter slope for probably that same reason. I tend to favor asymmetrical slopes of 18dB low pass/6dB high pass partnered up. I just get a more faithful phase lock that way. Allows you to leave all drivers in the correct polarity, none of that "inverting phase to make them play nice in the overlap region" stuff. Also offsets some of the off-axis problems presented in the vehicle. But you can't do that until you know the drivers are playing flat for the next two octaves into the stopband, so that presents some interesting challenges for the tweeters if the drivers are spaced too far apart. Definitely requires a tweeter that can comfortably play low, regardless.
Oddly enough, I also build my vented enclosures to mimic a .577 rolloff. That's fun.

i like even order slopes personally 12 24 and 48 but i agree phasing is important and you can hear the difference as you change slope. After years of being a bass head I've become accustom to using more critically damped enclosures. i will say that if i could design the door to have a 12db decay and use a 12dm octave slope i find it to sound more natural. that being said i always did prefer the shallow slopes but a lot of times the higher slopes sound good because the can limit the comb filtering and yo can get more power over the bandwidth which helps alot at high levels and higher power applications.

are linkwitz-riley and butterworth still being used these days?

Yeah the door skin had more of a angle then I thought it did. There was about a full inch that was folded over on the surround.
been there done that. though i had clearance but under a heavy load it was rubbing evenly misaligned. it happens. what about the helix comp mids? i also bought them before i decided to get these built..

nearly ever crossover passive is 4th order LR which is actually two 12 order butter-worth. lol in passives they are easy when it comes to [phase but they can be reactive sometime and troublesome to driver typical of high order filters..
