Thoughts on this plan?

Ok, vehicle is a 2006 GTO. I have a JBL 7001 mono amp rated at 700 watts at 2 ohms.

I'm trying to figure out if my amp would be enough for the 12" CAB ultra (rated at 750rms).

Which ohm/voice coil do I order to show that amp a 2 ohm load?

The other part of the plan that I'm unsure of is the box. I have a small trunk. The max height is 13", the max depth is 17". I can make the box be as wide as will be optimal for the sub. Can anyone tell me what width would be optimal for this application? (again, one ported 12" CAB ultra) When I run the numbers on the12volt.com 22x17x13 gives 2.11 cubes. But I have to subtract the sub's area and the port right?

I listen to mostly top 40/rap/some rock.

Thoughts on the CAB 12 ultra for this application? Would I be better off with something like a ported SA 10? A sealed 15? (it would have to face up, is that a big deal?)

I've read that guys will cut the box pieces and mail them to you to assemble, can someone recommend someone to do that for me? Or, I can do it myself, not sure which would be better.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to take my time and do this install 'right'.

yeah if u wanted ported box for most any 12 u gotta start with like 3 cf at least bfore displacements.. that cab would probably work with that amp but u would want more power later and then u would be stuck with a d4 sub (like me) I think that amp is only 2 ohm right?, so then u would have to pay more $ for bigger amp (1500 rms or so) and only run it at 2 ohm (which is what I'm looking to do) where as if u buy d2 sub now and get a 1k class d problem solved.. or get sub like mine (pioneer 3003 96db s/n, 600rms) which is pretty loud at 2 ohms with only 500rms, your amp should really be good on it $70 ebay, if u don't like it u ain't out much $ and don't need a bigger amp..

Looks to me like you'd do better with a single 10". SA series is a good choice,

If you don't mind used this would be great

I'd rather spend a little more and buy new just to avoid any hassles.

If I make it 31" wide x17x13 that gives just over 3 cubic feet. Would that be about right?

Maybe one ported ten would be better. I had budgeted around $200 for the sub. Is the SA10 about the best option in that price range? Again I'll have 700 watts at 2 ohms (at least thats what its rated)

Would one 15" Dayton HO or similar in a sealed box be a good option? It would have to be sub facing up, does that matter much?

Thanks.

if u are using slot port that's give u just under 3 cf after wood so yeah that'd be about right depending on port width.. are u saying u gonna face sub up even with ported box? sometimes that works in trunk sometimes not, my grand prix does much better sub and port firing rear.. so u are u giving room in front of port? the 17" is deep and that's what u have now right? let me check port disp u may could go less deep.. unless u doing massive port or sub with huge magnet I think u can do 15" deep should give u 2.67 cf and if u do a 2.25" wide port 11.5" high would be 2.19 cf ad or so after port disp and an average sub disp.. should work for many subs, mine is 1/2 cf smaller than that so depending on sub requirements u could shave another 2" off the width too.. the sa is a nice sub the fu 750 is a beast too if u haven't looked at those and they cheap but may take longer to get.. I've even read some reviews off peeps saying they had a sa got a E and the E metered higher I guess the e is just easier to push.. like I said wish u could hear my little box., I may have to get mine metered just to tell peeps on here about it..

No, only a 15" would have to face up.

Yes, let me know what would be optimal as far as sub facing rear, port to the side, or ?

And how much room to leave between the sub and the rear/trunk lid, and from the port to the wall.

Thanks.

I'd want at least 2" from either and port to side or front it's just really whatever the car likes and idk what different with yours as far as the gas tank thing.. (yeah I'd have to face up a 15 too) I'd think rear for sub and port be best but that's whats always worked for me., I just tried side port last week (port was not well done) on my test box and I put my smaller box back in with front slot port and omg that's what my car likes.. just like pic in my avatar but u need wider port and with 700 rms a E should do well for u, other 450-700 rms subs may work but if u get to nice (or heavy sub) it may need more power, as long as u have around 2 cf ad and port is like 2.5" wide x 12h (30" square u be fine., little more port area would be better but that's almost twice what I have) that'll keep box in the easy to fit in car range and port just at min recommended for cf.. if u do 2.5w port 11.5"h that's fine just think .5" higher box if it'll fit is easier to cut the sub hole if u are doing it.. your amp is a d class with ss filter right?

3 cube less port might hang OK with 12" Use 4" round flared port to conserve space. SA is a great 700W platform.

Can't comment on the dayton in so litte space but that might do OK too.

The only way to know what orientation will be best is to test. If someone hasn't tested in that exact vehicle they're only guessing.

Generally speaking you can crowd a woofer as close as you like to a wall, provided the surround doesn't rub. Port should be minimum 1 port width away from any obstructions.

Okay thanks guys.

Amp is class A/B, not a Class D. I am totally open to upgrading. So it sounds like a Class D would be a much better option?

What is generally the biggest amp you can use on stock Electronics?

You're ampnis fine. That jbl 7001 is a nice little amp. No need to change it if you just wanna run a 750watt woofer

Ok, sounds like I'll attempt this move with my current amp. I've settled on a single ported 10" or 12" sub.

I'd love to try the CAB 12" ultra, but that will max out my available trunk room. But certainly doable.

Anyone recommend a 10" sub of similar quality and price ($199) that would give me a little leftover trunk?

Thanks.

Dc Lvl 2 10 can fit in a compact ported box
I really do not need a compact box if I go with the 10. I could actually go up to 3 cubic feet with the 12" cab Ultra. A really nice 10 with a proper box might save me a little bit of trunk room though. That's a decision I'm trying to make.
