This will be the first system that I have put in my car, which is an extended cab Dodge Dakota. I care more about sq than I do spl but I still want it to thump a little but if I want it to, if that makes any sense. I dont really have a set budget, but I'm okay spending around $1,500 or so on this system. Here is what im interested in so far, but ive got very little knowledge in car audio so I would like some thoughts and suggestions for my system.

Sub: 12" JBL GTi MKII

Amp: MTX Audio XThunder X1000D

Component Speaker System: Alpine SPX-17PRO

Amp for the speakers: Kenwood KAC-6404

Head Unit: Kenwood KDC-MP638U

This is about as far as my budget will go right now. Is this a horrible set-up? Do I really need two amps? Basically Im clueless and I need help. Any info you could give me would be great. Thanks

the THD on that kenwood 4 chan is atrocious. you will defiantly hear distortion at high volumes. and those are pretty good comps so you shouldn't hurt them with a crappy amp. you should get a better 4 chan and a better sub amp.

how bout a kicker zx1000 ,a dd 2515 dual 4,powerbass 2xl 6.5 componants,massive 400.4,alpine cda 9851 [new] with ipod and a custom ported box at 41 hertz and a scosche amp kit 1400.00

Unless you are a true audiophile, 95% of subwoofers of good quality will sound more than good enough to you.

you should listen to some of the senior members they know whats up,been there done that.theyll give you some good advise about your system.biggest mistake you can do is go to best buy or another place like that or even a car audio store that sells only what i consder flee market junk.at least her youll get what you pay for and then some.

Looks like you could raise the back seat maybe 2 to 2-1/2" use longer seat bolts and washers and frame/mold in the under carriage cavity of that...
