Thought and opinions on compact 2 channel amplifiers

How does an amp that size put out that kind of power? When I look at the specs thd says n/a what exactly do they mean? I know it's class d so it will be a little higher but how will it sound?

Ignore the THD spec. A lot of the time THD is not measured consistently in the same way, so it's like comparing apples to oranges. A more useful measure of THD is to see a whole THD graph mapping power to THD. There was one for the four channel P900.4 and it looked very good to me. These amps have very low THD. Class D amplifiers run more efficiently, so they don't need huge heatsinks to dissipate heat. I had the 4-channel P900.4. With all channels running at 2ohms, it should be capable of 900watt RMS output. The length of the amplifier was about 10 inches. The 2-channel PPI P600.2 was not bench tested but the 4-channel was:

I saw also a bench test of 2-channel Polk Audio D2000.2 and 4ch Polk D4000.4. It's a related design, but the components inside are not identical to PPI amps. It looked good too.

They are made by Epsilon, same maker as Power Acoustic, Soundstream, SPL, and Kole Audio since '09. Trumpet's sold a few, but no reviews or anything yet. I'd be more inclined to get the PPI 600.2 for about the same cost.

Epsilon Group is just an investor. They don't make anything. The iON amps are Korean made while the Phantom amps are Chinese. To some people this makes a difference, but I am finding that the iON amps are very impressive in person. The i650.1 is driving my 500W RMS high excursion sub very well at 2 ohms.

That is good to know. I was and am quite interested in the ION series but couldn't dig up any info. I had just assumed that they were nothing special since no one talks about them. Anything other info you can shed for us?

None at this time. I think people aren't taking these amps seriously because of the price, and possibly because of the size. Amps are just going to continue getting smaller, and it's natural to be skeptical of power ratings. I would like to see a review on an iON full range amp from Gary Springgay of PASMAG.com. I'd like to see him review a Massive Audio BX2 or BX4 as well.

Giving subs more power really wakes them up. The MRP-500 is pretty low power. You would really notice more authority in your bass.

I’m sure they will be a good budget setup. I think they will lack some midbass but door treatment is super important so definitely be sure to do...
