those of you looking to go to college...

BS in Electrical Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics.
Will come out with near 2years of REAL WORLD co-op experience, the University of Cincinnati founded CO-OP.

But yeah, I'll more than likely be continuing on to Grad school, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Honestly, I'll be impressed if you are making more than $45k with that degree within 5 years, unless you are in a high cost of living area. In my region, that's not an extremely high paying career field starting off, unless you stumble into a few select corporations. And you have to be in the top percentage of your class to get into those companies. But most of the available jobs are in the $35-$40k area for n00bs.

Oh, and add Schwan salesmen and Pepsi/Coke salesmen (the guys who drive the trucks around) to the list of those who'll likely make more than your original stated figure their first year with no college degree //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I've seen several Pepsi salesmen making in excess of $80k, and Schwan men with a good route making over $70k easy.

I know 1 guy whose graduating next at the end of this semester, and has a job already. 60k a year to start. Majored in CS

I know there are people that make lots of money that havent gone to college, but I havent met too many of them.

****, I'm going to have to consider moving to the Hollow Depths of Hell. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Just out of curiosity, what type title do you hold that is if you are currently working?... or are you still attending school?
Have my BS in Accounting. Was working at a bank as an Asst Loan Officer...but the pay sucked, they didn't give me the promotion to Loan Officer that I was promised, and I really just started to hate sitting in an office all day.

So, I'm off to (what will hopefully be) bigger and better things //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

where the hell do you live at? the average cost of a house here is $350,000 +
Northeast Indiana.

If I were to go and get my CPA, then I'd have a higher earning potential. But I honestly don't want that. I got my degree in accting because it was between that or finance, and I felt that accting left my options a little more "open" for the future.

But rather than accting, I went towards the lending industry. Which doesn't pay all that great unless you get into a high ranking position in a national bank (National City, etc). I was at a smaller community bank, which pays horrible. Even as a loan officer my pay would have only been around $32k to begin with. I was only making about $25k working in the position I was. And June of this would have marked my 7th year with them. But just over a week ago I turned in my two weeks notice.

But I'm going to miss those 3 weeks of vacation I was getting per year....LOL

with the knowledge you gained at college do you think you could pass it easily or do you have to take like a training course for it.

7 years and your only makin 25k?! jesus that sucks

get a job working with the county/state. my mom did that and they get all holidays off, lots of vacation, and shes been with em like 2 years and shes making about 22/hr.

For....the CPA exam?

Traning course would be extremely helpful, just for the simple fact that it focuses in more on specifically what type of questions will be covered on the CPA exam, what they place more emphasis on in the exam, etc. And some minor topics weren't really covered in my college courses that would have been on the exam.

But the college courses definitely laid more than adequate groundwork, with the CPA training courses tweaking those skills and knowledge learned in college for the specific task at hand......passing the exam.

I am a finance major, ranked in top 5% of my class. I have done a internship with the state legislature and currently a co-op with the department of defense as a cost anaylst. I currently make 25k but will do a 7 - 9 - 11 deal where I get 8k raises in each of the years and top out at roughly 42k before I have do supervisory work. You can go to opm.gov to see what federal employees make. Not much, I'll tell you.

I want to go into commercial lending or maybe management at Lowe's. I really hate sitting in front of a computer all day with no real interaction with people. I like the problem solving portion of my job at Lowe's quite a lot. A lot moreso than making stupid charts and graphs.

I forgot everything i learned in the past 3 1/2 years of college. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Sporadic things will pop up every now and then, but i don't have a very good memory.

What was i talking about again?

But seriously, had i not gotten a bunch of scholarships (turned my $25+k a year school into a $9k a year one) i probably would have dropped out just to save the money. Sure, college experience may help me some time down the road, but i have ZERO idea of what i want to do when i'm done with school.

Oh well. The whole college experience was very enjoyable though.
