So yesterday i wanted to figure out if my Kenwood amp that i purchased last week really does 500X1 at 4 ohms was what it says with my sub hooked up with it, sooo i played a 60 hz test tone, the DMM i got is very accurate at that hz range, and then i slowly increased the gain and put the DMM connected to the speaker terminals of the amp and put it to measure ohms, the number at the start at rest was 3.3 ohms and it kept goin higher till i hit 44.7 volts and it read 16.5 ohms, and the amp clipped at 44.8 volts then i backed it down till the sound was clean again then my neighor comes out of his house to tell me to turn it down(he lives like 50 feet next to me) so i do then slowly dropped down to 1.8 ohms when it reached 2.2 volts my head units pre out voltage, isn't that interesting? so my sub was only getting 121 watts, i found it fascinating since i never did this test before. curiousity got to me alil bit as you can see plus i was bored yesterday. just htought i'd share this.

so you put the voltage into the calculator and realized that impedance rise of the subwoofer was a limiting factor huh?

its called inductance.

as electricity passes through a coil of wire, it makes a magnetic field no? well guess what. that comes with a price, because the magnetic field acts as a resistor for the flow of electricty. the stronger the field gets, the more inductance you have.

so in general, a voice coils is a crossover.

hope that made sense.

good day.
