this sub and amp match?

I have (still unopened) a Kicker zx400.1 mono amp with an RMS of 400W @ 2 Ohms. I purchased that yesterday. Today, I got an unbelievable deal on an Alpine SWR-1042D and a Q-Logic enclosure. The sub has an RMS of 500W. I am definitely keeping the sub, but am willing to listen to any suggestions regarding a diff amp.

I was told by my buddy who knows a lot more than I do that the Kicker Amp puts out far more than 400W @ 2 ohms.

should i get a more powerful sub? anyone have any suggestions? anyone know if the real rms is actually higher than the listed 400 @ 2 ohms?

p.s. i need a bass control knob, so amps that include one (kicker and rockford are the only ones i know of), would be great

The rms on the 400.1 is under-rated, but not by that much. I have the KX700.5 which basically couples that 400.1 mono block to a 350.4. Mine is currently used with a JL Audio 12w3v2, but it is too much power for the current sub. I would say that the R-type would be a very good match especially for the money.

as said the kicker will put out more than 400 but noticeably more...will also be a pretty good match for the R. You're porting her, correct?
i am going sealed bc i listen to the heavy sh*t (metallica, avenged sevenfold, tool, atreyu, slayer!!!!!) and i want quality over quantity. thats also the reason i went with a 10".

However, the guys at the store (i just discovered while in the law school library at 2:30 am) lied to me about the cubic feet left in the enclosure. Alpine recommends .5-.8 cubic ft. if going with a sealed box. The one they gave me is 1.0 (the Q Logic qlh 1.0010se) and has a hole in the top that is closed, but if opened, can make the box vented.

i have 2 powerlifting titles in the last 5 months, and i will go back to the car audio place tomorrow and do everything to get a smaller enclosure, even if it means holding the little 14 year old punk who told me it was a smaller size over my head 'til he agrees to take it back, and do my laundry for 2 months.

what do u guys think? (not about the previous paragraph, lol)
