A buddy of mine has 6 JL 10w3's with a JL 500/1 He has 2 pair of wires coming out of the box tied together(pos to pos) (neg to neg) one lead to positive on speaker connection of amp and the other to the power on the amp, this is the only way it works. Why is this ?

cause he has a mono amp which mens its designed to run one wire and power a single or multiple subs but multiple subs require bridging in most cases.

example: if he runs one cable to the back and has two terminals he needs to cut two extra pieces of speaker wire combine the positive ones run it into one terminal using the conjoined wires and bride it across to the other terminals positive end using the extra wire you cut. same goes for negative

idk if that makes any sense but thats the best way i know how to describe it

he said one is going to the power on the amp...

OP, if im reading that correctly, does that mean the negative on the subs isnt actually going to the negative on the amp???

Thats correct, not real sure which is to what but one lead to postive on speaker connection and one to the power, strange huh ?

NOT trying to be a d$ck BUT...is there any chance that you guys might have smoked a little angel dust or pcp before "seeing" this almost impossible act of speaker/amp relations? i don't see how that could even possibly come close to thinking about working. so 2 posotives to the subs and they run like champs huh? that's sum crazy sh$t if you ask me......by the way, watch for fire!!!

Thats what I said, if he takes the lead off the power and puts it to speaker ground it works for like 4 seconds and stops, but when connected to power it works normal, ??????

And 6 tens to a JL 500? kinda seems strange all by itself. i think the tens are trying to blow the amp so they can get more power from the replacement amp?
thats what i was thinking cause those subs would **** way more power than that, theyd either blow the amp up or blow everything up cause your amp shouldt be able to hand;e all that. hell my 1100.2 can barely handle my two cvr 12's

FINALLY someone agrees with me on something!!!! i feel accepted for once!!!!

When i first read the opening line and i saw 6 tens on the 500, i thought there is a problem in itself. SORRY TO GET OFF TOPIC!! the "friend" needs to take 4 of the subs out after he figures out what the power problem is IMO anyway. but hell if it sounds good then...............just fix the mentioned problem but i have no idea in h$ll what it could be and/or what would cause or let that even happen? fukin mind boggling to me!!!
