yes, they stay in business and sell so many because people want to make an insurance claim to pay off the car..... seriously, though, the guy is talkin out of his arse, going off what a friend of a friend said would happen when talking over a bowl to another guy.... even if the alternator would overload the stock wire, the stock wire is so small because it is actually fusable link (a fuse, in the form of soft copper wire)... if that happens, you get a "service charging system" on the mil display, to tell you to fix the wire. there is actually a sticky on the subject. haven't looked at it, but i'm sure it would answer your question if you had.
