This board is JBL biased...

Well the Resonant Engineering Amp...but I agree the 1200.1 is a **** awesome amp for the money...I have 2:D

I reccomend all different kinds of amps. But if someone is on a tight budget. It is hard to beat the jbl's. If I am biased towards any company it would be Fosgate. I have used their products longer than alot of you have been driving. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Jbl is a well known manufacturer, that makes good reasonably priced products. Which makes for a very hard to beat combination. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yeah, I'm Resonant and MMATS biased...

memphis 1000d is about 300 bucks from the right dealer... and they are WAY under-rated... about 200 watts or so..

i really like the ones ive heard...

never heard a jbl 1200.1.. but might try it on my new idq's.. *(pending their arrival)*

Originally posted by splunky The power acoustik 2100d benched in my shop at 2200w peak and settled in around 1400 watts rms. The price is a cool $279 my cost.
But there is two things about Power Acoustiks and JBL comparison...JBL is also benched at around 1300-1450 (depends on who you talk to) and is stable at 1 ohm, while the PA amp overheats...

On a similar note...I heard that Soundstream was purchased by Power Acoustiks...any truth to the rumors??? Audiolife, ramos, BBM, zane, anybody???

Originally posted by splunky The PA will not overheat unless it is underpowered. I will agree it is a bit hungry compared to the JBL but it will out perform it I gaurantee you that.
Overheat when underpowered??? Never heard of that, but that is NOT good, most amps would overheat all of the time then...I'm not so sure that the 2100D will out perform the 1200.1 though...more features, yes, more power...probably not...stable at one ohm...no.

I was wondering what all the fuss was about the 1200.1 also, I mean, JBL, they are ok, but not that great. So I was in the local shop one day, and a guy pulls up with a slammin system. I asked him what he was running and he said a pair of L7 12's. I said ****, you must have spent a fortune to power those. He started laughing, and said yeah, a whole $580 for 2400 watts. I said your kidding, then he showed me the 2 1200.1's. He said he had the MTX8100 on them, and it was loud, but not what he expected, then a buddy let him borrow a 1200.1, they compared them, and he said they metered it and there was a slight increase in SPL with the 1200.1. BTW, he was running them both @ 1-ohm. The amps were hot, but he said he had never had one shut off.

So basically, I could tell people to go out and buy an amp that costs twice as much, but most people could put that extra $$ into some other area of their car.

What I meant by underpowered was just this. Most people don't realize that if you crank the gain on an amplifier and it in turn draws more current from your 12v system if it has to work to hard to get said current ie. too small gauge power wire etc. the WILL overheat. That's all.

And they are not 1 ohm stable...

you bet they are in fact With a little help I have gotten them down to 3/4 ohm but I wouldn't recommend it because the slope inverts at 1 ohm and you will start to lose power.

As a matter of fact if it won't take a 1 ohm load all day 6 days a week I will be sending them all back. Display models or not.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif :D //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I'll be willing to hold you to that...I have seen too many PA amps goo up in flames (not literaly) because they are not very stable at or around 1.5 ohms. The JBL IS DEFINITLY stable at 1 0hm...also you have to take a peek at quality and reliability, for that, you have to say JBL...

It is very hard to beat the price vs. performance of the JBL. Not only does it put out over its rated power, its 1 ohm stable. What a deal. If they don't like the recommendation they have full right to go look for another amp.

Look out guys, these JBL haters are posting threads all over car audio boards now. But they never actually give a viable alternative to the age old JBL recommendation. Hmmm, wonder why? lol:D
