Thinking of Buying a Shotgun, few Q's?

^x2 thats what I got, very nice gun. The only thing I can possible wish different is the location of the safety, mossberg got that part perfect I think. I'd suggest looking around this forum --> Shotgun World for a bit. Lotsa good info there to look through.
agreed, i have 1 of each (rem870-moss500A) and the mossberg safety is in a much better location

thats a good one for in the house, its a 20 ga. and its total length is 36". but the mossberg 12 ga. is only 38" and it holds 6- the 20 is a single but with a skatter gun you only need 1

for a good shotgun that can handle the abuse of bein a "truck gun" get the remington 870 express, you can get folding stocks for them and extended magazine tubes. perfect self defense gun. easy to clean and not alot of moving parts to break and get bound up. above all avoid mossberg and cheap shit like that. I may only be 18 but I can almost guarantee I know as much if not more than 99% of people on here. Firearms are my #1 hobby, ca is 2nd...

in these pics I forgot my colt 1911 .45 and my MOSSBERG 590!!! .45 is in my side stand and the shotgun is in my closet...forgot to grab them for the pic...

Honestly I wouldn't carry a shotgun in your car, if someone breaks into your car to get your stereo goodies they will take your shotgun and you will be ****ed...

Wait 2 years and get your CCW and carry a handgun on you..Best way for self defense outside the home, and when you do, please kick down the extra cash for MAGSAFE rounds, they are prefragmented and will not over penetrate and kill an innocent bystander!!!!

Now for defense of your home, a shotgun is the BEST home protection weapon, period!!! The sound of the pump loading up a round puts "the fear of god" into anyone...Just that should scare off anyone!!!

Plus, to carry that shotgun legally in your car, you would have to have it in a case, and unloaded and I believe that the rounds have to be kept in another area of the vehicle, (check local and state laws) so if you were needing to protect yourself in a hurry (and its always in a hurry to protect yourself, you are on the defense) it will not do you much good as the attacker will not give you a "time out" to get your weapon ready and loaded...You will not be able to protect yourself like you are envisioning in your head and the attacker now has a shotgun as well... NO BUENO!!!!!!

A mossberg 590 is not a piece of shit little guy, the marines use it exclusively and I am sure they have the money to buy whatever weapon would do the best job, and that is the MOSSBERG 590!!! I have one and love it...

Remington is a fine shotgun, and is an excellent buy, but the mossberg has 9 shot capacity already where the 870 has 5 unless you buy the extended tube for it and has many folding pistol grip stocks avail for it as the remington...Both are great HOME defense weapons and it just comes down to cost and mfg prefrence...

mossberg doesnt ****, dillweed.

as far as "assault rifle" goes, you can own one legaly, going through the right channals (rectal exam by the A.T.F) but most .223s are not assault rifles because by definition an "assault rifle" is fully automatic, a ruger ranch rifle (mini 14) is SEMI-AUTO therfore not an assault rifle and its a great rifle
I thought all Fully Automatic's were illegal in the US //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif?

for the most part, to just go buy one from the guy down the street, yes they are BUT you can go through the proper channels (full background check with the A.T.F. and some other hoopla) and pay the fees, you can legaly own a fully automatic. you can own anything IF you go through the proper channels

ive seen fully auto AK pistols, a H&K MP5, and a pump shotgun that was about 18" it total length, all legal for the guy who ownes them. (he has a folder an inch thick with paperwork and A.T.F. forms, all with passport stile photos of him and his wife)

definition of assult rifle

Any of various automatic or semiautomatic rifles designed for individual use in combat...

a millitary assult rifle is select fire, only difference between a millitary assult rifle and a civillian assult rifle...

and yes, a mini 14 is a great civillian assult rifle that is inexpensive, reliable and made well...

And auto weapons are legal in the US, just cost a small fortune, goes through ammo like mad, and the FBI,ATF,and all the other 3 letter agencies crawl up your *** and can come and inspect your weapons at any time day or night,...Not worth it to me, but alot of people have them...

Britannica Concise Encyclopedia: assault rifle

Military firearm that is chambered for ammunition of reduced size or propellant charge and has the capacity to switch between semiautomatic and fully automatic fire. Light and portable, yet able to deliver a high volume of fire with reasonable accuracy at modern combat ranges of 1,000 – 1,600 ft (300 – 500 m), assault rifles have become the standard infantry weapon of modern armies. Their ease of handling makes them ideal for mobile assault troops crowded into personnel carriers or helicopters, as well as for guerrilla fighters engaged in jungle or urban warfare. Widely used assault rifles are the U.S. M16, the Soviet Kalashnikov (the AK-47 and modernized versions), the Belgian FAL and FNC, and the German G3.

mini 14 is not an assault rifle, nor is the SKS because they are not cappable of fireing in a fully automatic mode(with out ghetto modification)

you can legally drive around with a shotgun i believe. i shoot trap like as a sport. you don't want to ride around with a loaded shotgun, but if its in a case UNLOADED you should be fine. i live in nashville tn, and shoot at the tennessee clay target complex (nashville gun club). you can leave a loaded shotgun in your house, but i wouldnt advise it because some idiot will kill them self with it. so keep it locked up and unloaded. just make sure you keep proof that you own the firearm.
and i would recommend buckshot for defense btw.
Agreed. I can keep in in the truck as long as the ammo is seperate from the fun.

I opted for the Mossberg Persuader.

I do not keep my shotgun locked up, but I live alone.

Quick responses, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.
Anyway, I was planning on something in the lines of defense. I just wanted to be sure I'd be fine riding around with one of these unloaded in my truck. Now my question to Buck since you live in TN, this holds the same for assault rifles as well? I'd love a handgun but have a couple more years. I'll probably even be getting into the range if I get me a firearm. I'm in Murfreesboro BTW!
Where in the Boro? Yes, you will be fine with this in your struck. A friend of mine has an assualt rifle and we have been to "On Target" with it several times without issue.

Okie, I tried doing a search, this is basically all I came up with. BTW, I live in Tennessee FTW.
State Requirements

Rifles and Shotguns

* Permit to purchase rifles and shotguns? No.

* Registration of rifles and shotguns? No.

* Licensing of owners of rifles and shotguns? No.

* Permit to carry rifles and shotguns? No.

Now the thing is I'm 19 years old. I basically want something for provided safety that I can legally own. I actually just want to store this in my truck. Is there any rule/regulations on placement of the firearm? I'd probably lock it in the back since I have a bed cover.

I'm also sure it'll need to be locked up, unloaded, etc, but my main concern is if I am to be stopped and if for some reason I was to be searched this weapon is found locked in a case in my bed would I be in anyway breaking the law?

Now if all this goes well then please throw out there some decent shotguns. Also wondering if the applies for assault rifles? I'd love something .223 if I could legally carry one.
For safety getting to locked bed of your truck would be a pain youd be shot or killed before you could get your weapon....I carry one of these within hands reach of my vehicle all the time....I'm not sure in TN but in LA it is legal to shoot car jackers...I've pulled it a couple of times but so far never had the pleasure to shoot one...they've always ran and it wouldn't be sporting to shoot them in the back.....
