thinking about building my own bookshelf speakers for ht

I'll just post it here...

Mids: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=295-362

Tweets:http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=264-822

Enclosure: .5-.6ft^3

Port: 2" Flared 7" long IIRC

(only reason I went with those tweets was because I was sent them by mistake and was able to keep them for free, so I figured, why not use 'em?)

Crossover:

Just send that image to a parts express tech rep and they'll give you the parts...

Yes.
In HT the center channel is the most important, it carries the dialog as well as pan effects from one side to the other.

When the center doesnt match the fronts the image tends to sharply jump as the sound follows the action onscreen.
well the plan i got from that zaph audio site uses 7" mids, isnt that too big for a center channel?

Dont know what your view on full range is, but you can try this project...

Ill be building mine sometime this week if you want to read my take on them...you can always add a helper tweeter pretty easily...very affordable and simple //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

O and Springy, that 7 inch mid wont be a bad thing for the center, after all, they have to carry a lot of voices throughout the movie experience...center channel has an important role...

so basically i could use that setup i posted earlier from zaph audio, and just build 3 of them and put two on stands and put one its side and use it as a center channel?

I wouldnt put the center on its side as the bass would suffer per that thread...you could simply put two on there sides and mount a board between them. They need either a flat surface below them or a flat board for decent bass response...
JimJ...Judging by the thread title "bookshelf" speakers, I didnt think he would want a couple of floor standers...

But if you do...http://www.zillaspeak.com/bib.asp Take a good look at that site. Great sounding FR with bass extension down to the 30s in some cases...I have yet to try one but im too broke right now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Plus I dont have the room...No wuss here :p

BTW you would also need a sub for HT use...im guessing the Auras would dip to around 80 HZ which is where a sub can take over...

Ahhh one more thing...if I were you i would commit to one thing instead of mixing and matching...For HT its best to have the same speakers or similar response for the best results. Either commit to the Zaph audio and make 5, or commit to the Auras...

ok, so for rears could i just use 1 mid and 1 tweet to save money and space or would it be best to use the mtm design for all 5 speakers? and yes i have a sub, 15" tempest in a 7 cube boxed tuned to 19 hz. and im not sure im reading what you said about center channel speakers right, you're saying that i should build 2 mtm cabinets and have them next to each other sharing a long board underneath?

No that was reffering to the Delsol speakers...just build three of the mtm cabinets for your center and two fronts...if you want you can build two more for the surrounds, or as you said, remove one of the woofers (however that may require a change in the crossover network)
Hope this helps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I use stranded hookup wire to connect components...you can etch traces in circuit boards, but for prototyping crossovers it's not worth it.

I wouldn't decide between those based on power ratings. Doubtful you'll hear an extra 20 watts anyway, and those ratings are probably somewhat inflated to begin with.

Onkyo isnt a bad starter brand...I would go with that over the pioneer...you dont NEED that much power...

O and Jim, stay tuned for some BIBs on my part. I decided screw it, im going for it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
