things you have learned and screwed up.

I put a hole through my gastank not too long ago. $300 mistake. Other than that, I haven't blown anything. Sounds like some people need to be a bit more careful about things, being a "newb" is no excuse for ruining things!

No mistakes so far. All my car audio purchases have kicked ***, no problems. Did a great install, did all my research. I was a good noob, learned my shit before i bought my stuff. I LOVE IT!

my first HU.

dont produce vol. to speakers, front/back

amp : screwed. by montining it on my sealed box, which was a piece of crap, and vibration distroyed the amp, ( monting the amp on the WOOFER ENCLOSURE is the worst place ever)

playin with my free air pioneer subs , hittin on the cone with my hand , punctured one of them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif (but fixed it and i even trade it with a panasonic CD player /MP3 )

the only thing ive messed up so far is my dash bezel..luckly i found a new for 25.00 on ebay..oh yea rippin out my H/U thinkin i blew it when all it was my x-overs on my comps sh*tted out on me

Wiring is the Devil.

I've corrected far too many homemade spaghetti dishes in more car's than I care to admit.

Made a few of them in my early days too.

Thus, I still hate wiring; but am obsessively paranoid in neatly organizing wires to everything within my system, and cars as a whole.

Also learned real fast a few years back that before painting a vehicle, that the floor also needs to be completely wet too!

My resulting paint job at the time was a real display of colored dust and debris.

Took me the better part of a day to sand everything down, re-prep, and finally shoot paint again, this time with a very wet and clean floor. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sad part is, the paint I was using was $123.00 a pint.

Lesson learned!

Learned quite a while ago that when working on cars, dirt, grease, and road grime, cause problems, make simple repairs take forever, and can cause injury in the blink of an eye.

I got tired of it and spent a week cleaning every square inch on my car to satisfaction. It made things a lot easier, plus, it was also more cosmetically appealing.

I'm likely considered obsessive compulsive with my cars and their cleanliness anymore. Everything from the engine, to the inside, to the exterior, is typically highly detailed.

I'm sure that a few people who have seen my cars in person can quickly attest to this! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

remove all sharp objects before sub is installed, also make sure it is clear away from......a screw driver...you accidently left in the trunk..

hmmm... don't know what happened but yesterday hooked up my sub to my amp heard a thump / boom went to the back turned the gain less than 3/8 of the way up nothing. I believe my subs VCs went out. Dunno why though. Could be that the line level converter isn't set properly. Still awaiting answers from your forum members //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. Messed up a fuse holder which cost me an extra $20 but otherwise the only other thing is I didn't really do research on car audio equip which led me to buy 2 American Pro 12" 500W RMS 4 Ohm DVC subs which aren't THAT bad with the exception of one of them not bein useable by some unknown reason and the amp i got said 500W but then that was a way off peak rating and was more like 150W RMS which was fine on my American Pro until I just got some CDT Audio 6.5's and a Hifonics BX1000D amp. Can't wait to hook up my other sub. Hopefully that one doesn't blow. knock on wood.

I finally made a mistake with my stereo....ahh, as some may know, i have a downfiring box in my pick up. Well, i turned the box upright while in a parking lot, so some friends could see my subs actually working. Well, i forgot to turn them back down, so while driving like 20 minutes later, i came to a quick stock and my box went foward ripping all the wires out of my amp and my box came crashing into the front seats. No more 60-0's that quick ever again

I spent around 6 hours messing with the battery wireing and checking to make sure that all of my power wire is fine trying to figure out why my amp kept turning off for no apparent reason and wouldn't turn on sometimes. Came to the conflusion that I had a defective inline fuse. Looked perfect to the eye, musta barely came apart where it's soldered to the ends of the fuse. Lesson learned? Volt meters are your friend.

I was out installing my PA system a couple weeks ago and i was almost finished. My mom came out to see how i was doing. I was using a socket wrench to bolt my battery terminal on. Well, i turned the socket wrench a little too much and it made contact with my engine. Sparks went flying, it scared the crap out of me and almost gave my mom a heart attack. It melted part of my wrench off, too. Now i know to disconnect my battery. Im glad all that electricity didn't go into me.

I was working on puting my subs and amp in my car when my grandpa stopped by and he needed me help with another thing. So i went off to help him and shut my trunk.... I had my only set of keys in my trunk. My car doesnt have a trunk release and it was 30 mins before i had to be at work when i realized it. So i had to rip out my back seat to get to my keys.

Lesson learned, i now have 3 copys of my keys //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif
