There's hope for dead AGM Batteries...

The reason t works is because a standard charger won't charge a battery that reads too dead. So hooking it up to another battery tricks the charger. It's not rocket science guys. And as long as you don't leave it hooked for hrs at a time unattended then your batts will be fine
Exactly, that's basically where I was going with this.

Oh go argue with someone who wants to hear your lip.
Fine.........I'll go see what your wife's doing!

J/k man but seriously a normal charger will cook a sealed agm battery! not trying to argue with you about it as there is no argument to be had! What your suggesting is as risky as trying to jump start a lithium polymer battery off another battery or standard charger to get it's approved charger to recognize it, it may work but there is also a very good chance you will have a bad result with either an explosion or a fire or just plain ruin the battery/cells!

Made me a believer. I had my doubts. But it really does work. If you don't beleive me, send me your dead optima. I'll pay you the $5 core
I rarely ever drive my truck so it sits for long periods of time. I was soooo pissed when I thought my $200+ battery was bad. That's when I called Optima to complain and heard about this. They told me what to do because I didn't have a smart-charger at the time.

ok ok ok, truce. I agree with most of this post.

I talked to the guy that bring out interstate batteries to the shop. He said they do this to all the "dead" optima batts they get and sell as blems. I bought my blem probably 3-4 years ago for $40 with the notion of putting it in my trunk. I never used it until 2 months ago.

for real man I wasn't trying to e-thug it up but after I had to ride to advance with a battery under my hood hissing so loud I could hear it with the car running at stop lights(scary as h*ll BTW) and all from me using a NEW standard charger for about an hour(also not the first time I did this but this one time it DIDN'T work), I would never give any advice on those type of batterys unless I attached a "not my fault when sh*t hits the fan" disclaimer, ya know!

But if you beleive your battery is already fukt then you might as well try. You have nothing to lose

I think I would try a battery conditioner first to see if that brings it back then that method before going to get my core deposit on it.

But it doesn't matter what kind of charger you have. If the battery reads under a certain amount of voltage, the charger won't even try

I guess they do that so people don't hook them up to other peoples nibbles?

Can't say nipp les?

ok this is probly stupid. What i dont understand is if it takes a special agm charger to charge these batteries then why is it you can install this battery in your car or truck and not have to change your charging system. The charging system in your car or truck charges lead acid batteries and it does the same for AGM batteries so why would you need a agm charger to charge these batteries. I understand that you cant leave them on the charger for long periods of time like a lead acid battery but i have never used anything other then a standard charger for any of my batteries for the past 8 years and i charge them every single time i have a comp. I just put them on a small trickle charge for about a hour each. all my batteries rest between 12.9 to 13.1 and are in perfect condition.

how is it a smart charger. The alt doesnt know what kind of battery is hooked to it to charge. The battery doesnt tell the alt to stop charging either.
nope the alt varies it's current output both voltage and amperage depending on the needs/draw placed on it, and yes they do know when to stop charging any type of battery all factory oem alts are set at a predetermined safe limit, I had a voltage regulator go out a few years back on a subaru and it d*mned near blew the battery up in about 30minutes of getting it home charging in excess of 19v on a 12v system. The battery swell to about 115% it's normal size and was boiling out all the water
