Theories on my jacked stuff...

Ok, I'm stumped. Some of my stuff got jacked last night, and I just can't figure out how. I'm over the "hyper-pissed-let-me-find-a-bat-and-fark-this-bastard-up" stage - I just want to be sure it doesn't happen again. Given the nature of my OTHER vehicle, I want to know how this happened so I can protect against it in the future...

Ok - background - I've got a 'nice' car, and my 'work' car - I drive like 3 minutes to work & back, so why bother with a nice car? Anyway, the 'work' car is the one that got ... relieved of it's responsibilities ... which is kinda odd. The work car is a '92 buick roadmaster, not one single hubcap left, crunched in fender, paint peeling off, one broken mirror, etc, etc, etc... Parked across the street from my 'nice' car, a 2k3 WRX in perfect shape. The buick has a 2 year old (decent) kenwood CD, a kenwood 6-disc MD changer, kenwood 6" dualmags component set, 2 15" compVR's ... And it *HAD* a n old Kicker ZR1000 (yeah, I know, what a waste for such a piece of junk car), and a ZX460. The box is made such that the subs can only be approached from the rear deck, and the car has a Viper 550 alarm. The car used to have a "push-button" trunk release, but I removed it entirely - the only way to enter my trunk was with the key (I thought?), so when the alarm was installed, I didn't bother to put a sensor on the trunk (yeah, I know, please shoot my for my freakin' stupidity). Anyway, though, I nearly never "bumped" this setup, unless I was out on the interstate or traveling, and the only thing visible from outside the car was the CD player.

Now the info on the theft. The cab was NEVER TOUCHED - Note that I don't have any window tint or anything. Thus, the alarm never went off. I understand that much. But the amps were removed - this wanker just unscrewed my amp rack & took the whole **** think. Cut my changer cable & RCA's - but this is crazy - the guy carefully took my 0-guage power cable, pulled it up to outside the trunk, then closed the trunk lid on it so that the bare wire was held outside the car, to prevent shorting I guess. Maybe he figured a power fluctuation (such as would result from shorting that thing) would set off the alarm? But anyway... remember, the trunk actuator was no longer in the car, so he had to have gotten past the lock somehow... But I simply can't figure this out! The cab was never opened, the alarm was still set (and had never gone off), there were no signs of force whatsoever around the trunk lock - How the heck did this ******* get into my trunk??

My other car, you can be sure, has a trunk pin, by the way. Bet your arse on that one.

Additional notes - I've lived here about a year, and I live in a good part of Little Rock - one of these areas where seeing an attractive woman out jogging at 6AM by herself doesn't surprise you - I bought all this stuff long before coming here, and haven't worked on it one single bit since... And I honestly NEVER brag with this car (you read the description, why the heck would I brag with this ugly POS??). I never store anything else in the trunk, either ... Heck, I don't think I've even opened the trunk more than maybe twice since moving here. Im 99% certain there's no way anyone could have known it was in there. And given the ugliness of my car, I can't figure how anyone could logically come to the conclusion that it would be a worthwhile target... Yet, maybe I'm overlooking something?

Well, like in most cases, it's by someone who knows you. I dunno how he got into your trunk, but picking a car lock might not be that hard.

Real sorry to ehar such a tragedy happen, and I hope things will look for the better.

will the alarm company re-emburse you at all? i mean, soemthing should have triggered the alarm. this is kinda like getting an entire computer all laying in parts. then just when u ge tit together you forget to put the heatsink/fan on and you just made a 1x1inch frying pan on the die

sorry to hear ur shit got jacked. i'm guessing the reason it didn't go off is cuz there wasn't a sensor on the trunk. but u said the cab was untouched and he still got ur cd player. hhmmmm. if u seriously don't bump around ur home then i'm guessing its someone who knows u. check everybody's basement around ya and see if u find anything. real sorry about that. i can't wait till i get some limo tint. o another thing do u have any "steal me stickers?"

No, sorry, I guess I wasn't clear - nothing in the cab was taken, just everything in the trunk. And yeah, it's my fault the alarm didn't go off, since I never put a pin on it - I just can't figure how he got into the trunk anyway?

*sigh* - I guess the only I can do to defend is just to put a pin on every freakin' orifice in the vehicle...

I guess picking is the best guess at this point ... But I wonder, can't locksmiths make keys based on a VIN number? I wonder if maybe the guy knew a locksmith ... maybe I should put something in between the windshield & dash so the VIN can't be seen from outside ...

But yeah, that would definitely point toward someone I know, since that's a lot of trouble to go through if you don't know what's in the car...

I'm going to have to second that question. I was -always- told NEVER put any audio/video stickers on your car(s). That's pretty much telling everyone in the free world what you have and daring them to take it. But if they knew to enter through the trunk, and NOT the front cab.. 99% positive it's someone you know..or someone who has rode in your car before. Like stated earlier, look around in people's basements. Also, take notice of people who are acting strange around you, or just recently "came into" some money. It's logical reasoning to suspect someone who is acting weird around you, but DON'T let them know you're eyeing them. Just pretend like it didn't bother you and that your "Insurance Company" is going to give you a hefty sum for what has been taken. Try to "wiggle" that information into a convo with the person whom you suspect might have taken your stuff. If they are as dumb as i think they might be, they'll ask you "So what are you going to get next?"....Viola. Keep your eyes peeled and get a farkin alarm on that trunk! I hope this will help you out in anyway because i feel your pain. I had a DEI 650 amp stolen from me, which was a SWEET *** amp. But i did the above stated and found out who it was. Getting into a car isnt as hard as u may think.. especially if your familiar with the model.. They make "jiggler keys" by the hundred, and with older cars they have sets that GARAUNTEE one works.. although hand-picking older car locks isnt all that hard. I'de say look for any body indentation by the rear trunk locking mechanism, not famaliar with ur car at all, but thats a common way if done correctly..

Feel sorry for ya man, im not sure how many good lock people there are out there, but i can tell ya if i ever became poor ide know how to get rich real fast.. good luck on trying to catch this guy and get ur sh*t back..

I know how you feel, I have had one of my trucks broken into twice. First time b4 I had the alarm they busted a window and got in. But as they were trying to unhook the 1st amp with the seat tilted forward they put to much pressure on the back of the seat lodging the head rest into the horn. Nothing stole that time but i still had a busted window and a crowbarred door. Then I invested in an alarm with shatter and noise detection, but somebody got around that some how and stole 1 amp, my high current soundstream amp, one of the old bad *** ones--man that thing was sweet. I know it had to be someone I knew and got along with because they unbolted everything nic and neat aand taped the end of my power wire and left the rest alone. after that I took the other 2 amps out, the crossover, epicenter, 10 disk, cap and hu and stashed it in my closet, then moved across town and didn't talk to anyone. To my suprise someone broke in my house when I was gone and took ONLY my car stereo equipment that I had stashed in my closet and 2 new prs of docker wrinkle free slacks. The slacks really pissed me off because I never ot a chance to were them.

Sounds like an inside job. Personally I can get ahold of factory keys for all domestic vehicle; I get law enforccement catalogues all the time and my dad has a badge(US Customs). A criminal probably won't have that much harder of a time obtaining them. There are only about 50 variations of keys for the entire GM line, for instance(or at least this was true a few years ago). If you know how to cut key blanks then all you have to do is get the manufactures book for matching the VIN to the key and file them on the spot. Inside Job??sounds like they knew what they wanted and where it was..

Here in Los Angeles there is a new way to get passed Alarms and even Lo-Jack..."STUN GUN THE CHASSIS OF THE CAR AND THIS SHORTS OUT THE ALARM".

It's funny (or not really) I have discovered from my personal experience and those of others that we tend to be more obsessed with the "How's" of our stuff getting jacked than the anger of it being gone???
