Whats up all. I've been looking recently into getting another dog for the family. I used to have a Husky and would like to have another but they come with a nice price tag with them. Anyways I posted a classified ad and someone texts me saying they have something simular.. Im thinking ok Malamute. same difference. No, she tells me she has Akitas. So Im looking up info on them as far as temperment and what they are made for and such forth. I would hate to just pick up a dog for looks if I cannot provide what it needs. So far I've come to see some major difference between a Husky and Akita. Very super nice vs protective is the main one I see. Can anyone who owns an Akita share their experiance? I have a child who is 6 and cannot afford a overly aggressive dog. I know that would be somewhat up to me to determine and teach but I would like to know if they are more prone to biting then the other, ya know? Any info would be helpful. Thanks. And if anyone in the N.Texas area has any or knows anyone who has Husky's for sale let me know.I dont care if they are not papered, Im just not looking to spend that much. Im in Wichita Falls, but goto Houston often so between here and there. Thanks

i had a malamute .their stubborn bull headed wouldn't listen to hardly any thing i said but he was loyal . kids by where i used to live at threw rocks at him and poked him with sticks well one day he had enough and he got lose and bit one of the kids .so animal control put him down . i ever get a bigger house im going to get a couple husky's i heard there not as hard to train

i wouldnt recomend an akita if you have small children. nothing against the breed but they very pack oriented and its possible they might view the child as lower than them on list and it could be an issue. malamutes are good dogs, just need something to do, they are a working breed.

I've always wanted a husky. I've also heard malamutes tend to be very protective. A friend of mine had a malamute and it would eat and maim everything smaller than it that went it it's backyard. It would regularly eat squirrels, birds, etc.

This one wandered up...it seems friendly...if you pay shipping ..I'll send it to you...I think I can stuff it in a big flat rate priority box.....

My huskies did that also. They're very territorial.
If I'm not mistaken, malamutes tend to get a little bigger than huskies though. Upwards of 50lbs bigger at max.

I'd hate to have a full grown territorial malamute around kids smaller than it.

lol. thanks but.............. no thanks.

My Husky was the complete opposite then you guys describe! He was definatly the escape artist that comes with all husky's and he was nice to everyone. They say some of their triats are they dont protect but are just super friendly. I went to the local PD one time to get shots for him and such (they have a community vet day here) (small town.. ) Anyways, my dog got so excited to see all the other dogs he started talking up a storm (sounds like yelping but its not) He even started growling because he heard other dogs growling and barking, like they were crazy! The funny thing to me (i dont think others caught the humor) was that he NEVER knew how to growl, what growling is, and for what its for or anything! He was there wagging his tail, tongue out , growling lol. But he was very good with my son and the family. Even cats! He had a friend that would come over and inside his outside kennel and they would just hang out under the tree... Weird. The cat would come sometimes when feeding time and eat some food with him. Either way. I would like to find another one. The Akita the lady is selling is full blooded without papers. Only 50 bucks.. Any more info you guys might have for me to consider?

Here goes some pics for you guys Older pics but just to share

Wait. You had a dog that did not understand growling? It sounds like a stupid dog, but I am guessing that it just had a stupid owner who likes to attribute non canine charcateristics to a dog becuase his dog is just that fvcking special.
