The Official Type R Thread

Ok so they sound like crap sealed?

another thing....i got the outside dimensions of my box. it is 17.5" deep 20" wide and 15.5" tall. I came up with around 3.1 cubic feet by the outside dimensions but i'm horrible with math. Could someone please tell me if I was correct on figuring my air space?

ok, i have a 12" type-r 4-ohm sub. and an alpine m850 amp. i figured this amp would be perfect since at 4 ohm its 500w rms, and its a 4 ohm sub that handles 500w rms. now, about the box, im more into sound quality, i heard a 1cubic foot box is pretty good. what do you guys think?

this setup is kinda what i have in mind...but i wont have the bottom shelf so i can still put my tools back there. and the m850 isnt THAT big, so if i ever wanted a small 4 channel amp for my alpine door speakers they would prob both fit on the top shelf

so for my type-r a 12" outside dimension cube box would be ok right? or 12"x12"x12" inside dimension? that 1cubic foot is including the space the actual sub takes up?

oh and HOW THE HELL do people carpet their stuff so **** good? cant see any corners or edges seams or anything? thats the only reason im skeptical about building my own box is the carpet will look like crap if i do it.

AND the wires inside the box AND the wires going from the amp to the sub, what gauge should those be? i have a rockford 500w rms kit right now, i think its 8 gauge wire for power and ground.

Yeah I used to have 2 Type-R's in a sealed box then I had my cousin make me a Ported box and OMFG what a diff then I didnt have room for them so... they went //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

But they were the first gen Type-r's so I'm looking into getting the 07's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

i think they meant it would sound bad becuase its 2.5 cubic feet sealed. sealed box for the type-r is only supposed to be like .75-1 cubic foot for the 12, the 15 isnt THAT much off in sealed space is it?

i hav a 2001 toyota avalon and i am gonna upgrade my system by putting a single 12" Alpine type R subwoofer in my trunk. I was told to put an Alpine MRP-M850 amp which is 800w to 2 ohm.

Is there any better amp for a better price?

yes, there are. Alpine amps are usually not the best for the price.

hifonics, sundown, PowerAcoustic, kicker, rockford fosgate

these are some decent amps. you get what u pay for. I'de take any rockford/kicker amp before Alpine

whats a reccommended box size for 2 12" dual 4 type r 500wrms.

feeding it 1100wrms at 1ohm running subs parallel-parallel.

i want it for spl and for daily listening

i assume going for ported is best, and what to tune it to, and should they share the same enclosure or each in its own seperate enclosure?

also round or slot ported?

the max external width i can have is 820mm, max height 350mm

could some body design a box for me please.

my mates got a box thats 1.7cf, ~3" inch wide port 4" inch deep, what is this tunned to? and will this work for the type r's

i just installed (2) 10" type-r's on 500 wrms each, and they both have their own 0.7 cu ft boxes. problem is my spl output is horrible. could it be an issue with the HU or are sealed boxes just not designed for SPL?
