The Official Type R Thread

Ive got two type R 10's and i wanted to hook them to a audiobahn 8002v, the subs are 4 ohm dvc and i want to wire one sub to one channel, second sub to sencond channel, but how should i wire the subs in parallel or series? I want the load to be 2 ohms on the amp b/c that apparently where it had the most power 400 watt rms.

Advice appreciated

can someone send a pic or post a pic of their 4ohm type r wired to 1ohm parallel parallel. im confuzzeled.

EDIT: i have 2 of them i know it can be done but it would be reassuring to my thoughts if i could see it.

I was thought i would be able to wire to 4 ohm dvc in parallel

like this and then wire each sub to each channel?

thats true, but i've always wanted to know the TRUE difference from between a 10 and 12, and 12 and 15, assuming the box specs are 'perfect' and the power is identical.
it depends if they are really the same sub or not, meaning some subs just have a different cone between the 10, 12, 15 and they have the same motor and everything...(Fi subs, AQ's, other), in this case, i'd wouldn't expect THAT much of a difference compared to a 10 or 12 that may be the same line up but has a different motor and all...

my point is that since the 10 and 12 R has the same motor and everything, the performance should be similar, on the other hand, since the 12 and 15 barely share anything in common, there is a big improvement all around...

The R's are not built the same. Alpine specs say each works at specific freq. for best sound not too mention RMS ratings.

4ohm DVC and 2ohm DVC are the same except for wiring of amps. If you are going to run Two R's on One Amp get the 2ohm unless you have a 1ohm stable amp. The 4 ohm is for a single amp or 2 amps on one speaker.

I have a type r in a ported box in a jeep and its pretty darn loud im going to get some pics or how its set up between the spare tire and the other wheel well. And does any body have any opinions for building a ported box (for a type r) that goes in my soon to own lexus es 300. I know a lot of cars that have the subs in the trunk lay the back seat down for the air pressure. Well the es300 has a middle seat in the back that folds down as a armrest and the the is a little door that also folds down accessing the trunk but only takes up the middle seat not the others. Do you think this will be enough to keep my sub hitting hard a clean. I also may roll doen a window to help it too. LMK

I have a SWR-1242D. Right now its getting around 500W rms at 2 ohms My amp is rated at 385W rms at 4 ohms. What would happen if I put 2 amps at 385W rms at 4 ohms, one amp per coil?
200ish watt gain..wouldnt be worth the hassle of takin the sub out the box.

Ok so i understand that to hit high on the spl scores it takes 3 things the right kind of sub, the box built correctly, and the right kind of amp. For the subs, i know that you'd like to have a higher sensitivity rating, because that translates into how well the subwoofer can transfer the power into sound. but that doesnt mean everything, i know that you also have to supply enough power to the sub so that it can still be louder at a higher volume.

But, I found in comparing the JBL P1224, the Kicker 06S12L7, and the Alpine Type R, that the jbl and the kicker has a higher sensitivity rating than the type R. So what i was wondering is that between these three subs which is the greater for spl, and if the type R is still the champ out of them, why is it better with such lower specs compared to the other two.

The reason Im asking this is because out of these three models, im going to put the better model in my car for my final system, also they would be ran off of one or two Kenwood 9152D amplifiers
