The Official Type R Thread

Hey guys, wow this thread is awesome hehe. Not really in the mood to sipher through 178 pages, so i hope no one minds me posting a question. Im getting TWO Alpine Type-R 12" subs. Dual 4 ohm. So i need to get 1ohm stable amp/amps for them? What amps do you guys reccomend. Im pretty partial to Hifonics and Alpine, so i would prefer one of those, but im not sure how much power i need to run to these. Money is not an issue. I was thinking a Hifonics BXI-1206d to each of them, but would that be too much power? one BXI-1606d for powering both of em?

Okay, so if i got two Type-R 12", dual 4 ohm subs, all i would need to power them nicely is, lets say for example, a hifonics BXI-1606D. That would push enough power to make them wang hard, i fi was just gettin one amp to power both of them. Correct?

If this is correct, thats $250 bucks i thought i had to spend on a second amplifier that i dont have to spend. So, what do you all have to say about two 15" Type-R's, dual 4 ohm, powered by a Hifonics BXI-2006d (2000w @ 1ohm)

Any input would be great, i needa know ASAP!

hey guys looking to get into some Type R's i want 3 12" what kinda amp do you recomend to push 3, its going into 2000 chevy s10 ext cab or will a alpine pdx1.1000 push 2 15" R'si dont think that amp has enough uice to push 3 12" @ 2.65 ohms, but tell mw if im wrong...thx

Hey, yeah i also need a couple opinions here hehe narrowed down the choices to what my wallet can handle:

2 12's 4 ohm with a Hifonics BXI-2006d (2000wRMS @1ohm)

2 15's 4ohm with Hifonics XX-Hercules or a Hifonics BXI-2006d

Can anyone vouche that any of these would be a decent setup? My price limit for subs and amps/amp is about $750.

will a 15'' type-r be louder than a 12''?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif
you never know because its the same watt rating.
the 15 will be louder than the 12 more than likely. The 15 is rated at 750 RMS, the 12 is 500rms

i know, but how much of an audible difference will you really hear.
I'd bet you would hear more of a difference going from the 12 to the 15 (assuming the appropriate box) than you would by simply doubling the power to the 12.

thats true, but i've always wanted to know the TRUE difference from between a 10 and 12, and 12 and 15, assuming the box specs are 'perfect' and the power is identical.

From what i have seen going from the same woofer to the next larger size usually results in a small db gain. i have saw going from a infinity 10 to a 12 perfect, both in rec sealed boxes resulting in a 2db gain.(approx) iirc it was 1.8db.

Heres the deal guys

Single 15" Type R

TCAB Enclosure w/ Two 6" Aero's

XX-Herc for amp

Im running the sub at 1 ohm, so the herc is capable of 2000+, but i want to tone it down to around 1500 rms, how would i go about making sure the sub see's 1500 or so on this amp? just turn the gains down to the apropriate voltage reference for 1500 watts, or up a little more from that to compensate for imp gain, yada yada
