The Official Type R Thread

Taken directly from the mentioned thread:
If I send my IA 187s 200 watts, they'll outperform IA LIs getting only 100 watts. Doesn't mean anything. What both tests DID confirm is that the SX and seXXX were more efficient than the Type R, which is more important in a DD.
Only ONE test was done with two amps. I remember talking to this guy about it a bit, he said all of the tests but ONE was done with the EXACT SAME amount of power. So, indeed, the tests were 100% equal, and the Type R, as I stated, came out on top by a hair.

One test however, was done with the Type R on both amps, and the other RE subs on one amp. I don't see how this makes the RE subs more efficient at all though... because they couldn't handle the power for sh*t, as the tester said.

eh, id rather pay more for the underdogs/ungerground brand //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif everyone around here is like RE who? even the kid i sold my RE SE15 is like re is the shit, he dont even know what RE stands for, he doesnt even know his is an SE, but he loves it
HEY MAN THE new R'S ARE UNDERGROUND, everyone think they sucked almost like the older type R's, not many people expected the new TYPE R to shine like it does, no one really knew about this sub until it hit this thread, i had the R's the first few days they released them from alpine. so im my book they are underground. and if you think RE is underground. do a search on this forum of RE and tell me which one comes up more. RE or alpine type R i know here of late the Type R has been on the front page of car audio, but RE is not underground, especially if you know car audio or search this forum. but i kinda digg what your saying:)

well, i was just trying to help, if anyone ever tries that out they will see....

im not even running type R's i have just done a few installs with them

and i know i've never heard a sub in that price range sound the way they do

I'll give you that. I still don't see why you make a $200+ investment because of one review with a few numbers.

I heard the new Type R first hand... I thought it sounded a little different than before, but I didn't really know. Then I started reading that the 05 Type R's are redesigned, etc. I noticed the higher RMS power handling as well. I was on the verge of going with a single 12 inch SX... But here was the kicker that made me buy what I did.

If a single Type R can match up to and/or surpass the SX's numbers, why the F*CK would I go with a single SX when I can have a Type R for half as much?

Here's another kicker... I got the pair of R's for the price of one SX. Considering ONE R can do what it can do in comparison to the SX, why not buy two? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I was prepared to spend about 300 bucks anyway, and I wanted to get my amp to 1 ohm (it's been ran at 2 ohm since I got it a year ago). So I made my choice, and actually ended up saving some money. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah, the new Type R sure does shine, doesn't it? I liked the older Type R's though too. They were pretty good for the money. The thing is, I didn't notice much of a price change when the 05 Type R's rolled out. Glad I waited. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'm told that the 05 Type S's are equivilent in sound quality and overall output to the older Type R's.

What does the 2.3cuft after displacement @ 32hz look like?

I'm not certain where you are getting any woofer was "more effeciant"? Effeciancy wasnt tested.... only top SPL score.

Rule of power, double the power equals double the output, or +3 dB. If the Alpine got +1 dB at twice the power, at equal power it would theoretically be -2 dB.

exactly!

Lets say the type R in the tests was some new RE sub that retailed for the same $ as a type R on ebay... now why the HELL would anyone *ever* buy an SX when they can get the sub thats half the price and does the same thing/better? Type R gets no love from some because its Alpine... hrm...

on paper, sure //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

In real life... no

It never works out like that, very rarely will you gain 3db when doubling power, especially when your near/at the subs limits.

Don't read more into the tests than what was tested...

the 2 woofs arent comparable at all! The new S and the old R are very different woofers.
