The new mag is xbl :D

Who said anything about it having a 2.5" coil? The new Mag's will still use a 3" diameter coil. The winding length is going down a lot though, which is one of the reasons why thermal power handling is going down.
I referenced the IDMax with a 2.5" coil, but never said the Mag's were going to have a 2.5" coil. I just said the new Mag's inductance is going to be crazy low. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

*edit* I just re-read my post on page four and I can see where you got that from. The new Mag's will have a 3" diameter coil. Sorry about the confusion.
ok sorry for the mix up..but all in all i think it will be a very nice sub

i will try to get my hands on one next year ...should be around febuary time

A couple of questions:

Lowering the mounting depth almost always means limiting excursion. What is the peak to peak throw of the new basket?

Also, the graph shows a linear BL within 20mm of one way throw, what is the estimated xmax of the driver?

Peak-to-peak excursion has gone down by 0.6" from our previous version. Smaller mounting depth does mean peak excursion has gone down - no need for the extra throw really. It was all non-linear with the previous Mag's anyway. I'll post Xmax later.

all nonlinear, on the old mag? I knew it didn't use a special BL topology but I figured it still had a good 10mm in it though?

I'm assuming he meant the peaks of the excursion on the old Mag, I think it had a decent amount of linear excursion.

Right, the remainder of excursion was non-linear past linear limits. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Sorry for the confusion. The previous Mag has about 65 mm total travel for the 12" size and 75mm total travel for the 15" size. Linear stroke on both models is around 25mm one-way, which only left you 15mm of left over travel on the 12" model. Divide that by two to get one-way non-linear throw past Xmax and you get 7.5mm of extra travel before the suspension bottoms out. Anyway, 17mm is a tad over 0.6", so that's why I said that the 0.6" past 2" of travel on the previous/current Mag's was all non-linear.

Indeed. A good quality sub does not mean high excursion, nor does it have to be //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Definitely true, The XXX is a great sub, but it leads in neither SQ or SPL so that is proof excursion isn't everything. I for one am glad to see people like Nick who still design a sub primarily for SQ with decent SPL being a result of quality design.

We still gonna see around 2" linear for the new Mag?
Nope, like I said, peak excursion is going down by 0.6" which brings peak throw to 2" total. Linear will be less than that for many reasons (and I'm talking about from a design standpoint - there are many reasons to keep linear travel less than peak suspension travel).

Just wanted to verify one more thing as the mag will probably be out of my budget unfortunately. The BM will still be available in a 10 correct?
Nope, 12's only for the first run. If there's enough requests, a 10" is always a possibility though.

I'd hold off on your initial statement though - we've got something in store for the release of both new models (Mag and BM's). //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif A Mag is probably going to be within your budget. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
